We Delved Deep to Discover Which Giant Will Dominate the Roads. We Evaluated Performance, Comfort, Fuel Consumption, and the New Technologies That Can Define the Success of Your Operation, With the Verdict of Those Who Really Understand the Route.
The year 2026 marks a turning point in Brazilian road transport. Driven by the Proconve P8 (Euro 6) standard, manufacturers are launching their most advanced weapons. We put the new DAF XF, Mercedes-Benz Actros, Volvo FH, and Scania Super through exhaustive testing. To translate engineering into reality, the truck driver “Porto”, with 30 years of experience, evaluates every detail, from engine power to cabin comfort.
More Than a Regulation, a Leap in New Technologies
The consolidation of the Proconve P8 emissions standard changed the game. It became the main catalyst for a wave of innovation in the sector. Manufacturers are not just cleaning up the smoke. They are redefining what a heavy truck is. Efficiency, safety, and comfort have become the focus of the competition for leadership.
This reality has accelerated the convergence between the European and Brazilian markets. The new technologies are arriving almost simultaneously. The new DAF generation, Mercedes’ ProCabin, Volvo’s updates, and the Scania Super powertrain are examples of this. Brazil has ceased to be a secondary market. Now, it is a strategic battleground, with more options and technology for fleet owners and owner-operators.

Individual Analysis of the Launches
To understand what each brand offers, we analyzed each of the four titans in detail.
DAF XF: The King of Space and Efficiency

DAF has built its reputation focusing on reliability and low cost. The new XF seeks to consolidate this position. Its PACCAR MX-13 engine with 530 hp and 2,600 Nm of torque is designed to operate at very low RPMs. This results in less strain, more silence, and greater fuel efficiency. The transmission is the efficient ZF TraXon with 12 gears. The PACCAR MX Brake engine brake, with 490 hp, ensures safety and reduces the maintenance of service brakes.
In the cabin, the DAF XF is unbeatable. The Super Space Cab version has an impressive 2.10 meters of internal height. It is a true apartment on wheels. Comfort is a pillar for the brand. Among the new technologies, the Predictive Cruise Control (CCP) uses GPS to anticipate the terrain and can generate up to 6% fuel savings.
“The first thing you notice in the DAF is the size of the house. It feels like you’re in a flat. You can tell that at the end of the month, the difference in your pocket should appear”, evaluates Porto.
The Vanguard of New Technologies

The Actros positions itself as the most technological and safe truck in Brazil. The heart of the machine is the OM 471 engine with 530 hp and 2,600 Nm. Mercedes promises a fuel savings of up to 8% compared to the previous generation. Its high-performance engine brake reaches 580 hp, one of the highest powers in the market.
The main difference lies in the ProCabin and its new technologies. The dashboard is 100% digital, featuring two screens from the Multimedia Cockpit. The MirrorCam system replaces mirrors with cameras, eliminating blind spots. In terms of safety, the Actros is a pioneer. The Active Brake Assist 5 (ABA 5) can brake to a complete stop to avoid hitting a pedestrian. The Active Drive Assist 3 offers level 2 semi-autonomous driving.
“Driving the Actros is another experience. Visibility in the rain and at night is incredibly clear. The truck brakes automatically for a pedestrian… it’s life-saving technology. Mercedes-Benz has managed to show that their truck is the most modern”, says Porto.
Volvo FH: The Safe Evolution of the King of the Road

Best Seller in Brazil, the Volvo FH is an institution. The brand bets on evolving its successful formula. The D13K engine, in the famous FH 540 version, continues to be synonymous with strength and reliability. The secret to its success is the perfect integration with the automated I-Shift transmission, known for its intelligence and smoothness. The predictive system I-See optimizes the gear-shifting strategy based on the topography.
The FH’s cabin is a sanctuary of ergonomics and silence. The quality of sound insulation and the layout of the controls reduce fatigue. For 2026, with new technologies, Volvo introduces improvements such as the Traffic Sign Reader and offers camera mirrors as optional.
“Volvo is Volvo. You sit in the seat and already feel safe. The engine and transmission communicate beautifully. On the descent, the VEB+ engine brake holds the load incredibly well. It is the master of the road”, states the truck driver.
Scania Super & V8: The Dilemma Between Maximum Efficiency and Legendary Power

Scania offers two distinct solutions. The Super line is the major bet on efficiency. Its 13-liter engine is 100% new. The 560 hp version delivers impressive 2,800 Nm of torque, the highest in the category. The promise is of a fuel savings of up to 8%.
On the other side is the iconic V8. With up to 770 hp, it is a symbol of status and maximum power. Both lines use the new Opticruise transmissions. For comfort, the S cabin stands out for its completely flat floor. In terms of safety, the ADAS 2.0 package includes the Driver Attention Support, which monitors the driver’s fatigue.
“The Scania Super is very intelligent, economical. Now, the V8… oh, the V8 is every truck driver’s dream. The roar sends chills down your spine, the power is incredible. Scania gives you the choice: be the most economical or be the king of the road”, comments Porto.
With the New Technologies, Performance, Comfort, and Safety Go Hand in Hand
When placed side by side, the differences become clear. In the performance battle, the Scania Super stands out for its greater torque at very low RPMs. In terms of braking, the Mercedes Actros has the most powerful stock engine brake, but the combination of the CRB system with Scania’s Retarder can offer the highest total retention capability.
In the comfort war, the choice depends on priorities. The DAF XF wins in internal volume. The Scania S offers the desired flat floor. The Volvo FH is the master of ergonomics and silence. And the Mercedes Actros bets on functionality and an innovative layout.
Which Titan for Which Battle in the Future of Transport?
The 2026 duel shows that there is no absolute winner, but rather a champion for each need. Choosing the best truck is a strategic decision.
- For fleets focused on total cost (TCO): The rational choice leans towards the Scania Super and the DAF XF, champions in efficiency.
- For managers looking for innovation and risk management: The Mercedes-Benz Actros is the unequivocal choice, with its superior technological package.
- For those seeking the perfect balance and reliability: The Volvo FH continues to be the gold standard in the market, a safe bet.
- For owner-operators or prestigious operations: The Scania V8 reigns supreme, combining power, emotion, and status.
