The Yamaha Fazer 250 Took A While To Take Off, But Today It’s A Success: 250 cc Motorcycle That Gets Up To 33 km/l And Costs Less Than R$ 17,000 Used.

When it was launched in 2005, the Yamaha Fazer 250 seemed to have everything to win over Brazilian motorcyclists. It was the brand’s first bike in the 250 cc range, featuring a robust appearance, a single-cylinder engine, and the typical reliability of Japanese motorcycles. However, in the first few years, sales fell short of expectations—mainly because the market was still skeptical about higher-displacement models aimed at urban use.

The story began to change over time, and the model underwent significant evolutions, especially with the new generation launched in 2018. Between 2019 and 2023, the Fazer 250 reached its peak and became known as one of the most economical, reliable, and accessible motorcycles for daily use and short trips.

Today, in 2025, it is considered a find in the used market, with well-preserved units costing less than R$ 20,000, fuel consumption reaching 33 km/l, and a reliable mechanic that hardly gives any headaches.

A Motorcycle That Has Matured Over Time

The Fazer 250 was created to be an option above the 150 cc motorcycles, offering more power without sacrificing economy. However, in the early years, the audience still preferred entry-level bikes, like the Honda CG and Yamaha Factor.

Everything changed with the 2018 redesign, which brought a look inspired by European naked bikes, an LED headlight, more aggressive lines, and better finishing. It was then that the motorcycle finally gained identity and began to attract more people, especially those looking for a step up from 150/160 without entering the premium category.

250 cc Engine, But Performance Of “Almost 300”

The Fazer’s engine is a 249 cc single-cylinder, flex, air and oil-cooled engine that delivers 21.5 hp at 8,000 rpm and 2.1 kgfm of torque at 6,500 rpm.

Despite the official displacement being 250 cc, the performance is close to some 300 cc motorcycles, which leads many to place the Fazer in this “middle ground” between urban bikes and lightweight touring motorcycles.

The 5-speed transmission has precise engagement, and the bike has sufficient power to tackle highways and climbs with a passenger without effort. But the big highlight is fuel economy: using gasoline, it reaches 33 km/l on the highway and achieves between 27 and 30 km/l in the city, depending on the rider.

Simplicity That Wins

Part of the Fazer’s recent success lies precisely in what seemed like a “flaw” at the start: simplicity.

With no complicated technologies or expensive maintenance, it has won over those who use a motorcycle daily to work or study. The engine is reliable, the oil cooling system helps control temperature, and the maintenance costs are low.

Another positive point: the Yamaha network is extensive, and parts for the Fazer are available in any city, from authorized workshops to independent mechanics.

Comfort For Daily Use (And Even For Traveling)

The Yamaha Fazer 250 is not a luxury motorcycle, but it delivers good comfort levels for its purpose. The seat is wide, the riding position is relaxed, and the suspension has enough travel to handle potholes and bumps.

For those who engage in intense urban use, it is light and agile in traffic. For those who like to travel, it can comfortably ride at 100 km/h without excessive vibration and with very low fuel consumption.

Safety And Equipment

In recent generations (2019 to 2023), the Fazer has included important safety features, such as standard ABS brakes, an LED headlight, and a fully digital dashboard.

Front Disc Brake With ABS – greater confidence in emergency braking.
Complete Dashboard – gear indicator, average consumption, clock, and fuel gauge.
LED Headlight And Taillight – better illumination and a more modern appearance.

All of this without losing the essence of a practical and easy-to-maintain motorcycle.

How Much Does A Fazer 250 Cost In 2025?

One of the great attractions is the price. In the used market, the Fazer 250 (2019 to 2023) can be found for:

  • 2019/2020 Models: starting from R$ 16,500
  • 2021/2022 Models: between R$ 17,500 and R$ 19,000
  • 2023 Models: around R$ 20,000

In other words: for less than R$ 20,000, it is possible to buy a motorcycle that achieves over 30 km/l, has ABS, good performance, and low maintenance costs.

Why Did It Take Time To Take Off?

In the early years, the Fazer faced two obstacles:

  • Higher price than what entry-level motorcycle buyers were willing to pay.
  • Conservative appearance that didn’t excite young motorcyclists.

With the renewal in 2018, Yamaha solved both issues: the design became modern, the package more attractive, and the motorcycle began to sell more and more.

Today, it has become a “darling” of urban motorcyclists, driving schools, delivery riders, and even beginners looking for something more powerful than a 160.

What To Look For Before Buying A Used Fazer?

Even being reliable, it’s worth paying attention to some points:

  • Oil Change: It’s crucial to follow the correct interval (every 3,000 km).
  • Drive Chain: check for wear and tension.
  • Basic Maintenance: ensure that filters and spark plugs have been changed on schedule.
  • App Use Or Delivery: check for signs of intense use, such as worn levers or torn seats.

The Yamaha Fazer 250 (2019 to 2023) is the perfect example of a motorcycle that started slow but became a sales success.

With a 250 cc engine that delivers performance of “almost 300,” consumption of up to 33 km/l, ABS brakes, low maintenance costs, and priced below R$ 20,000, it has become one of the smartest motorcycles in the used market.

If you are looking for a fuel-efficient motorcycle for the city, comfortable for travel, and reliable for daily use, the Fazer 250 is a smart choice in 2025.
