With Recalibrated Engine for 207 hp, Unprecedented 8-Speed Transmission and SUV Interior, Chevrolet Pickup Completely Revamps to Challenge the Hegemony of Toyota Hilux and Ford Ranger.

The 2025 Chevrolet S10 has arrived in the Brazilian market with its deepest update in a decade. The model has been re-equipped to regain its prominent position in the midsize pickup segment. With strategic changes in engine, design, and technology, the S10 aims to directly challenge leaders Toyota Hilux and Ford Ranger, offering a performance and modernity package.

The 2.8 Duramax Engine and the New 8-Speed Transmission

The heart of the new S10 received an important update. The renowned 2.8L Duramax turbodiesel engine has been recalibrated. A new electronic management system, which General Motors associates with elements of “artificial intelligence”, has increased the power to 207 horsepower and the torque to 52 kgfm (510 Nm).

It is essential to clarify that information about an engine with 228 horsepower does not apply to the Brazilian model. This power belongs to the S10 Max version sold in Mexico with a 2.0L gasoline engine. For Brazil, the bet was on the evolution of the 2.8L.

The main mechanical revolution is the new 8-speed automatic transmission. It replaces the old 6-speed gearbox and is the same one that equips the American Chevrolet Colorado. The shifts are quicker and smoother, eliminating hesitations. The practical result is acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 9.4 seconds, one second faster than the previous model. Additionally, the pickup is now up to 13% more fuel-efficient.

The Inspiration from the American Sister Colorado

With a digital dashboard, 11-inch screen, and more connectivity, the cabin of the new S10 makes a generational leap and approaches the comfort of an SUV.

The appearance of the 2025 S10 has been completely redesigned at the front, conveying the feeling of a new generation. The inspiration from the North American Chevrolet Colorado is clear and intentional. The hood is higher, the front grille is more prominent, and the new, sharper full LED headlights give it a more robust and aggressive stance.

At the rear, the cargo bed cover has also been redesigned, displaying the name “Chevrolet” in relief. The taillights have gained a new LED signature, completing the visual modernization. The set aligns the pickup with the brand’s global identity.

More Comfort and Cutting-Edge Technology

If the exterior has changed, the interior has been revolutionized. This is where the 2025 Chevrolet S10 makes its biggest leap in quality. The old dashboard has been replaced with an entirely new layout, aligned with GM’s more modern vehicles.

The standout feature is the set of integrated digital screens. It combines an 8-inch instrument panel with a new 11-inch MyLink multimedia center. The pickup now offers wireless connectivity for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless smartphone charging, and the OnStar system with native Wi-Fi. For the first time, the steering column features height and depth adjustment, a highly anticipated ergonomic improvement.

The Direct Confrontation with Hilux and Ranger

Chevrolet’s strategy positions the 2025 S10 in a direct confrontation with its main competitors. On one side, the Toyota Hilux, sales leader and synonymous with reliability. On the other, the Ford Ranger, a reference in technology and performance with its V6 engine.

In performance, the S10 surprises. Even with a four-cylinder engine, its acceleration time is technically on par with the Ranger V6. This is due to its lighter weight and the efficiency of the new transmission. Against the Hilux, the S10 is noticeably faster. In terms of fuel consumption, the Chevrolet pickup takes the lead, being more economical than both rivals.

However, Chevrolet has made strategic concessions. The 2025 S10 does not offer adaptive cruise control (ACC), which is available in the top versions of the Hilux and Ranger. Another absence felt by off-road enthusiasts is the mechanical locking of the rear differential, a feature that both competitors have.

Prices, Versions, and the Value Proposition of the New S10

The 2025 line has been restructured in the WT, Z71, LTZ, and High Country versions. The value proposition of the 2025 Chevrolet S10 is clear: to offer the best ratio of performance to cost. It delivers V6 acceleration, the lowest consumption in the category, and a fully modernized interior at a competitive price.

The S10 forgoes niche technologies like ACC to focus on what impacts the majority of drivers in their daily lives. Although it has not surpassed the Ranger in technology or the Hilux in reputation, it has become a much more dangerous and complete challenger. The pickup did not come to be a supporting role and has turned the battle for leadership into a fierce three-front contest, where the biggest beneficiary is the consumer.
