The New Electric Kombi from Volkswagen Features a Unique Design and the Biggest News Is That the Vehicle Will Be 100% Electric
To celebrate 70 years of Volkswagen in Brazil, the company announced the arrival of the new electric Kombi, the Volkswagen ID.Buzz, to the Brazilian market in 2023. However, availability will be quite limited, with only 70 units being imported. Additionally, the business model adopted for the ID.Buzz will be a subscription service, in line with the manufacturer’s strategies for the electric vehicle market, according to Quatro Rodas website.
During the 70th anniversary celebrations of Volkswagen in Brazil, the company confirmed the launch of the ID.Buzz minivan and the ID.4 SUV. These two vehicles will mark the automaker’s debut in the national electric car market but will initially be available as subscription vehicles.
Volkswagen stated that the exclusive batch of 70 units of the electric Kombi ID.Buzz will be imported to Brazil in 2023, in homage to the brand’s anniversary. According to the global company announcement, these vehicles will be sold through a subscription model, following the same strategy adopted for the ID.4. The automaker also revealed that it secured over 3,000 subscription contracts in 2022 and plans to increase that number by 150% by 2023.

Volkswagen’s Choice to Offer the Electric Kombi by Subscription
The decision to offer the Volkswagen ID.Buzz solely by subscription aims to protect the market from its high price and the scarcity of vehicles for immediate delivery. The electric minivan has high demand in Europe, where its price starts at €65,000, equivalent to about R$ 340,000 in direct conversion. This makes the ID.Buzz the most expensive Volkswagen in Brazil. Generally, subscription cars can be purchased at the end of the contract or traded as used vehicles, including at auctions. The fact is that at least 70 units of the ID.Buzz will be available in Brazil.
The Design of the New Electric Kombi from Volkswagen
The appearance of the new electric Kombi is one of its main attractions. Inspired by the iconic Kombi T1, also known as the “Kombi Owl,” manufactured between the 1950s and 1975, the ID.Buzz features a design that evokes the past, with its hood forming a “V.” However, it brings modern elements, such as horizontal taillights and updated bumpers.
Although it has undergone some modifications compared to the original model, with the front axle repositioned ahead of the driver, larger windows, and sliding doors on both sides, the ID.Buzz retains details that reference the classic Kombi, such as the plastic trim on the last column that resembles the air intakes of the old air-cooled engine.
Inside, the electric Kombi from Volkswagen accommodates up to five people, while an eight-seat version is expected to be launched soon in the United States, but has not yet been announced for Brazil. Notable features of the ID.Buzz include a flat floor, electric sliding rear doors, and a spacious trunk with a capacity of 1,121 liters.
Although the units are limited, the availability of the electric Kombi in Brazil represents a unique opportunity for enthusiasts of the model and for those looking to adopt a more sustainable transportation option.
