This Natural Gas Supply Contract Signed by Petrobras in Partnership with Copergás Will Begin in December 2024
Petrobras, a giant in the energy sector, has just secured an important position in the Brazilian natural gas market. In a statement released this Monday, the state-owned company announced the signing of a new natural gas purchase and sale contract with the Gas Company of Pernambuco (Copergás). The agreement, resulting from Public Call No. 003/2022, will be valid from January 2024 to December 2034, and is estimated at R$ 6.7 billion, according to the website Petronotícias.
Copergás conducted the Public Call with the aim of acquiring the natural gas necessary to meet the regulated market in its concession area, located in the state of Pernambuco. With the contract signed, Petrobras secures a significant share of this market, strengthening the commercial partnership between the two companies.
This new contract with Copergás is proof of the reliability and security maintained under competitive commercial conditions, especially at a time of market opening and diversification of natural gas supply. Petrobras celebrates this achievement as an important milestone in its strategy for expansion and consolidation as one of the main natural gas suppliers in the country.

Petrobras in Full Swing
It is worth noting that this is not the only recent movement by Petrobras in the natural gas sector. Last week, the state-owned company announced the signing of two natural gas purchase and sale contracts with the Gas Company of Santa Catarina (SCGÁS). These contracts, which will be effective from January 2024 and 2026, respectively, and end in December 2034, are valued at approximately R$ 7.6 billion.
These contracts reinforce Petrobras’s commitment to supplying the growing demand for natural gas in Brazil, a resource of extreme importance for various sectors of the economy, including industry, commerce, and services. The company has been investing in infrastructure and technology to expand its capacity for production, transportation, and distribution of gas, ensuring a reliable and secure supply.
The Natural Gas Market and the Contribution of Petrobras
Additionally, the contracts signed by Petrobras contribute to the consolidation of the natural gas market, stimulating healthy competition and driving sector development. With a strategic approach, the state-owned company seeks to diversify its operations and establish solid commercial partnerships, as is the case with Copergás and SCGÁS.
The signing of this R$ 6.7 billion contract between Petrobras and Copergás represents a milestone for the natural gas industry in Brazil, boosting economic development and energy supply for the population of Pernambuco.
