Best-Selling SUV In The Country Will Get A New Generation In 2027, With A 1.5 TSI Hybrid Engine, Design Inspired By The ID. Cross Concept And Technologies From The European Golf. Project Integrates Volkswagen’s Billion-Dollar Investment In Brazil.
The next generation of the Volkswagen T-Cross is set to debut at the end of 2027, bringing to Brazil the 1.5 TSI Evo2 engine with electrification and the MQB Evo platform, a technical base shared with the T-Roc and the latest update of the European Golf.
According to a report published by Autoesporte, the new model will combine performance and efficiency, adopting a mild hybrid (48V) system and, in the more expensive versions, a full hybrid (HEV) system with a combined power output of up to 170 hp.
The renewal aims to maintain the SUV’s leadership in the national market, a position held by the T-Cross until September 2025, with 65,987 units sold.

The new Renault Koleos has a screen exclusively for the passenger that is invisible to the driver, heated rear seats, and 29 assistance systems, but its Chinese competitors cost R$ 40,000 less and deliver more power.
Billion-Dollar Investment And Volkswagen’s Industrial Plan

Volkswagen confirmed a new cycle of investments in the country: an additional R$ 9 billion for 2026–2028 was announced, added to the R$ 7 billion from the previous cycle (2022–2026), totaling R$ 16 billion.
Part of this amount will be invested in developing the new generation of the T-Cross, a project internally referred to as A-SUV or VW226, according to Autoesporte.
The publication highlighted that the model is among the four new products planned in the manufacturer’s industrial plan, all focused on electrification and greater technological content.
MQB Evo Platform And European Golf Technology
The T-Cross 2027 will adopt the MQB Evo, an evolution of the MQB platform that supports the second-generation T-Roc, launched in Europe in August 2025.
This base will allow the national SUV to inherit solutions from the European Golf, such as the MIB4 multimedia system and the IQ.DRIVE assistance package, featuring items like Travel Assist and enhanced adaptive cruise control.
According to Autoesporte, Volkswagen intends to replicate part of this content in products made in Brazil, maintaining the strategy of aligning the Latin American portfolio with innovations from the European market.
New 1.5 TSI Evo2 Engine

The 1.5 TSI Evo2 belongs to the EA211 family and operates with a combustion process derived from the Miller cycle, combining variable geometry turbo (VNT), high-pressure injection, and active cylinder management, which deactivates two of the four cylinders under low load conditions to save fuel.
Another distinguishing feature is the unified emissions module, which combines a three-way catalyst and a particulate filter, optimizing pollutant reduction.
In Europe, the engine powers the T-Roc with 150 hp and is expected to have calibration adapted for the use of ethanol in Brazil.
Performance And Hybrid Versions
The manufacturer’s strategy foresees two electrified configurations. The first, MHEV 48V, will deliver around 150 hp and 25.5 kgfm. The second, HEV, will reach approximately 170 hp and 31.6 kgfm.
According to Autoesporte, the full hybrid version is expected to appear first in the top options of the T-Cross, before being applied to other products from the brand, such as the upcoming mid-size pickup known by the codename Udara.
Although the manufacturer has yet to release official data, industry sources indicate that the initial focus will be on reduced consumption and smoother driving.
Design Inspired By The ID. Cross Concept
In style, the new T-Cross will draw inspiration from the ID. Cross concept revealed at the 2025 Munich Motor Show, featuring thinner headlights connected by a horizontal LED bar and muscular fenders.
The Autoesporte newspaper also pointed out that the design is expected to follow Volkswagen’s new visual language, with clean surfaces and aerodynamic details, while maintaining the typical robustness of the Brazilian SUV.

Codenames And Positioning In The Volkswagen Lineup
Behind the scenes, the project is identified as A-SUV or T-Cross NF.
The current generation is expected to continue in production with a new facelift while the 2027 model moves up a notch and effectively replaces the Taos in the future.
In an interview with Autoesporte, Volkswagen’s global CEO, Thomas Schäfer, stated that the ID. Cross concept can be adapted according to the preferences of each region.
According to him, “with our long history in Brazil, everything is definitely possible,” emphasizing that the design and technical content may vary according to local demand.
Market And Electrification In Brazil
Even with a competitive landscape, the T-Cross remains the best-selling SUV in the country, which explains the strategic weight of the new generation within the billion-dollar industrial plan.
The adoption of the 1.5 TSI hybrid flex engine is seen as an essential step to meet new emission targets and compete with electrified rivals, such as the Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid and the Honda HR-V e:HEV.
Finally, Volkswagen is working to nationalize the production of the hybrid system and expand the technology offering in vehicles manufactured in São Bernardo do Campo (SP).
Details regarding calibration, consumption, and versions are expected to be disclosed only closer to the launch.
With so many changes anticipated, what do you hope to see in the T-Cross 2027: more efficiency, cutting-edge technology, or a look closer to the European ID. Cross?
