Valued at R$ 7 million, the Caterpillar articulated mining truck overcomes 30° slopes even with tons of load
For as long as anyone can remember, trucks and giant machines attract people of all ages, whether they are toys or in real life. This is the case with the new Caterpillar mining truck, which is articulated and approximately the size of 2 Ram 3500s. Approximately, the Caterpillar mining truck costs R$ 7 million, according to the Quatro Rodas website.
The mining truck is powered by a 6-cylinder, 18-liter diesel engine with 511 hp and 260.9 kgfm of torque. Additionally, the Caterpillar mining truck has a 9-speed automatic transmission, all-wheel drive with a 6×6 configuration, and can overcome a ramp with a 30° incline even when loaded with tons. In terms of dimensions, the truck measures 11.5 meters in length, 3.5 meters in height, and 3.8 meters in width.
Caterpillar developed this mining truck with the intention of surpassing all existing ones in the mining market, with its great articulation capacity, reducing the turning diameter and its large front attack angle; the mining truck is a success. Furthermore, its strength and capacity are such that Caterpillar claims it can operate even with mud halfway up the wheels.

Caterpillar Mining Truck and Its Impressive Features
Among its countless features, the Caterpillar mining truck also has a cylinder that moves the dump body, taking 12 seconds to open and 10 seconds to close, with a dual exhaust system. About 60% of the gases are captured by one of the pipes that passes over the truck’s dump body and works to heat it, preventing mining debris from settling in the dump body. This system prevents the excess material deposited in the dump from reducing its volume capacity and increasing the truck’s weight.
Inside the mining truck, Caterpillar considered the comfort and operation to be as comfortable as possible for the driver, implementing good ergonomics, anti-UV, anti-glare windows with good acoustic insulation, as well as a multimedia system with a touchscreen, Bluetooth, LED-lit keys, and air conditioning. Additionally, the truck’s gear lever is integrated with the operation joystick, allowing the driver to have fewer elements to operate while driving.
