Hybrid Bi-Fuel SUV from Renault Combines Gasoline and LPG with 48 V Electric System and Promises Up to 1,500 Km of Range Per Refueling, New 4×4 Drive and 6-Speed DCT Transmission.

The European Duster will debut in 2025 with a new hybrid and bi-fuel configuration, called Hybrid-G 150 4×4, capable of achieving up to 1,500 km of range per refueling, according to official data from Renault.

The model combines a 1.2 turbo three-cylinder engine with a 48 V electric system, a 6-speed DCT transmission with paddles, and all-wheel drive, activated by an electric motor on the rear axle.

The brand reports that the system can reduce operating costs by up to 30% compared to gasoline-only versions.

Hybrid Powertrain with 1.2 Turbo Engine

The mild hybrid system utilizes the 1.2 turbo engine paired with a 23 kW (31 hp) electric motor installed at the rear, responsible for driving the rear wheels.

This engine is coupled to a two-speed gearbox and features a disengagement function when rear traction is not required, aiming to reduce consumption.

According to the manufacturer, the Duster can operate in electric mode for up to 60% of the time in urban routes.

The energy is stored in a 0.84 kWh battery, recharged through regeneration during braking and deceleration.

DCT Transmission and Efficiency on the Road

For the first time in the Dacia/Renault lineup, the Duster adopts a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission with manual shifts via paddles on the steering wheel.

According to brand information, the new system was developed to provide faster responses and better energy efficiency in road usage conditions.

The system utilizes electric support during accelerations and resuming speed, focusing on balanced performance and consumption.

Extended Range with Bi-Fuel System

The Hybrid-G 150 4×4 features two 50-liter tanks, one for gasoline and another for LPG (liquefied petroleum gas).

This combination allows switching fuel according to costs and availability in each country.

The strategy, according to Renault, ensures savings of up to 30% in cost per kilometer.

The calculation considers the WLTP homologation cycle, used as a reference in Europe.

Electric 4×4 Drive and Driving Modes

The all-wheel drive is electronically controlled and managed by a terrain selector with five driving modes: Auto, Eco, Snow, Mud/Sand, and Off-road.

The system distributes torque between the axles as needed for traction.

There is also hill descent control to ensure stability on steep climbs.

According to the brand’s engineers, the goal is to maintain performance on different surfaces without compromising consumption.

Two Bodies: Duster and Bigster

The hybrid solution will be applied to both the Duster and the Bigster, Renault’s larger SUV for the European market.

Both utilize the CMF-B platform, also employed in other models of the group.

The manufacturer claims that the rear electric architecture and the DCT transmission were developed to adapt to both vehicles, respecting the weight and proportions of each project.

Technical Data of the Hybrid-G 150 4×4 System

The 48 V electric system assists with starts, maneuvers, and low-speed movements, as well as acting in regenerative braking.

The rear 31 hp motor provides instant traction when additional torque is needed, but can be disconnected automatically to avoid mechanical losses in low-demand situations.

The combined power is 154 hp, as disclosed by Renault in the technical presentation of the system.

Visual and Equipment of the New Generation

The third generation of the Duster, officially presented in November 2023, now displays a design with more angular lines, a new dashboard, and updated materials in the interior.

The European range includes versions Essential, Expression, Journey, and Extreme, which differ by equipment level and finish.

According to the company’s statement, the modifications aim to meet the safety requirements and energy efficiency of the European Union, maintaining the positioning of a competitively priced SUV.

2026 Line in Brazil and Updated Engines

In Brazil, the Duster remains in its second generation, which received an update in February 2025.

The 1.3 TCe turbo-flex engine now generates 163 hp and 25.5 kgfm of torque, while the 1.6 SCe naturally aspirated engine maintains 112 hp (ethanol) and 109 hp (gasoline), with adjustments to meet the Proconve L8 standards.

The versions remain available with manual or CVT transmission, according to the trim level.

Renault has not officially confirmed the arrival of the third generation in the country.

Future Plans and New National SUV

Sources in the automotive sector state that the manufacturer is studying the production of a new national SUV based on the CMF-B platform, a project identified internally by the codename Boreal.

Images of prototypes testing in Brazil reinforce the possibility that the model will be manufactured regionally in the second half of the decade.

However, the company has not released an official schedule for the launch or details about the engine options or market positioning.

Outlook for Brazilian Consumers

For industry analysts, the debut of the hybrid Duster in Europe shows Renault’s direction toward seeking greater range and lower operating costs per kilometer driven.

If the Hybrid-G 150 4×4 system is adopted in Brazil, the combination of gasoline and LPG and the electric support of 48 V could represent an efficiency alternative within the compact SUV lineup.

For now, the brand’s focus remains on the current lineup and the development of new products based on local needs.

Do you believe that the Brazilian audience would adopt a bi-fuel hybrid SUV like the Hybrid-G 150 4×4, even without immediate national production?
