The Surge of Oracle Shares in September 2025 Put the Co-Founder at the Top of the Global Billionaires Ranking

A significant change in the ranking of the richest men on the planet occurred on September 10, 2025. On that day, Larry Ellison, co-founder and largest shareholder of Oracle, surpassed Elon Musk and took the lead in the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.

Ellison’s fortune reached US$ 393 billion (about R$ 2.1 trillion). This extraordinary leap occurred after the company’s shares rose more than 40% on the New York Stock Exchange. This movement was driven by strong demand for cloud computing and artificial intelligence.

The Rise of a Billion-Dollar Fortune

In just a few hours, Ellison’s net worth increased by more than US$ 100 billion (R$ 540.8 billion). This accelerated growth represented a rare achievement in the financial market.

Thus, the 81-year-old businessman dethroned Elon Musk, who had accumulated US$ 385 billion (R$ 2 trillion). Musk had been in the lead for almost a year.

This result was a direct consequence of Oracle’s aggressive projections. The company forecasts an increase in its cloud infrastructure revenue from US$ 10 billion to US$ 144 billion by 2030. In this way, the company is expected to establish itself as one of the global leaders in the race for artificial intelligence.

From the CIA to the Cloud Empire

Oracle’s journey began in 1977, when it was founded by Larry Ellison, Bob Miner, and Ed Oates. Initially, the company provided database software for the CIA.

Over time, however, the company diversified its operations. It expanded into enterprise solutions and, more recently, established itself as a provider of digital infrastructure that supports global artificial intelligence services.

Today, its client portfolio includes companies like Netflix, LinkedIn, eBay, Airbnb, JP Morgan Chase, and Citi Group. This reinforces Oracle’s international reach and relevance.

The Lifestyle of a Billionaire

Beyond business, Larry Ellison is known for his extravagant lifestyle. The businessman purchased 98% of the island of Lanai, Hawaii. He also built a real estate empire in Malibu and made a name for himself in sports by <strong founding the international SailGP championship.

On a personal level, he gained attention in 2025 by marrying Jolin Zhu, his sixth wife.

Politically, he maintains proximity to Donald Trump and frequently donates to conservative causes. In the social realm, he has joined the commitment of Bill Gates and Warren Buffett. With this, he promised to donate 95% of his fortune to initiatives related to health and medical technology.

Unstable Rivalry Among Billionaires

Despite the historic achievement, analysts emphasize that the Bloomberg ranking is volatile. This is because it directly depends on the fluctuations of the companies’ stock prices.

Therefore, the leading position may not be permanent. In recent years, Elon Musk has alternated first place with Jeff Bezos of Amazon and Bernard Arnault of LVMH. This frequent rivalry highlights the instability of the list.

For now, however, Oracle and its co-founder have marked an impressive achievement. The company has managed to turn the advancement of artificial intelligence into billions of dollars. At the same time, it placed Larry Ellison at the top of the list of the richest men in the world.

What Does the Future Hold for Ellison and Oracle?

According to financial and technology experts, Ellison’s staying power at the top will depend on Oracle’s performance in the coming years.

If the growth projections through 2030 come to fruition, the company could establish itself alongside Amazon, Microsoft, and Google as a leader in the cloud and artificial intelligence sector.

In the meantime, the competition for the title of the world’s richest billionaire is likely to remain intense. This reflects not only the dynamism of the market but also the speed at which the technology sector redefines fortunes.

What do you think: Will Larry Ellison be able to maintain the lead, or will Elon Musk reclaim the top spot soon?
