Brazilian Mining Will Focus On Sustainability And ESG Practices For A More Efficient And Even More Responsible Production, Says President Of Ibram

This week was marked by the inauguration ceremony of Raul Jungmann as president of Ibram and, with that, new perspectives for the future of the sector in Brazil. The executive used his inauguration moment to defend his main ideal during his presidency of the organization, sustainability in mining. Thus, he stated that his management will be marked by incentives for ESG practices within mineral production in Brazil, and Ibram will do what is necessary to invest in this initiative.

Additionally, amid the moment of instability in agribusiness in Northern Brazil, Jungmann also emphasized his repudiation of legal mining and stated that he will work to combat illegalities within this sector. Moreover, Raul highlighted the importance of the management continuing the partnership with the National Mining Agency to invest in oversight, adoption of measures, and new projects aimed at sustainability in Brazilian mining, as a way to expand ESG practices in the sector.

The executive concluded his speech by stating that “The role of mining is not just strategic, it is not only of public utility. It plays an important role in the development of the country, generating jobs, income, contributing to promoting justice, sustainability, and respect for the environment. When we talk about ESG, we are dealing with very concrete actions. Using less water, using renewable resources to generate energy, respecting the community, preserving the forest, and other commitments to the environment. This will be the direction of our management. And always together with the Board of Directors, which thinks like us and supports us.”

The Ceremony For The Inauguration Of Raul Jungmann Also Marked The Arrival Of New Positions In The Organization And Discussions Surrounding Mining With Sustainability

In addition to the arrival of executive Raul Jungmann at the inauguration of the presidency of Ibram, the meeting also marked the inauguration of the CEO of Anglo American in Brazil, Wilfred Bruijn, as president of the Board of Directors of Ibram, and of the CEO of Lundin Mining Corporation, Ediney Maia Drummond, as vice president. Furthermore, the meeting included tributes to the previous management and opened space for a series of discussions surrounding mining with sustainability.

Thus, the president and vice president of Ibram jointly highlighted the aim to invest even more in ESG practices and sustainability within production to expand Brazilian mining. Ediney also emphasized the approximately 2 million direct and indirect jobs and the R$ 117 billion in taxes that the sector has contributed to the country and stated that these numbers will grow even more during the new management.

Finally, the ceremony was also attended by Ministers of the Supreme Federal Court, Alexandre de Moraes, Gilmar Mendes, and Luís Roberto Barroso; the Acting President of the Chamber, federal deputy Marcelo Ramos (PSD-AM); the Minister of the Federal Court of Accounts, former senator Antonio Anastasia, and senator Jean Paul Prattes.
