Announced at the Galaxy Unpacked 2025, the new Galaxy Z Fold7, Z Flip7 and Z Flip7 FE come with significant changes in design, cameras and features, but with a notable downside: the end of S Pen support on the Fold.
According to the official announcement from Samsung during the second half Galaxy Unpacked event in 2025, the company unveiled a new and bold direction for its line of foldable smartphones. The new generation, consisting of Galaxy Z Fold7, Z Flip7 and Z Flip7 FE, features a completely redesigned Z Fold 7, the arrival of DeX mode to the Flip line, and the introduction of a more affordable Fan Edition (FE) version, aiming to further expand the reach of the technology.
The news point to a maturation of the category. The Fold 7 abandons the narrower format and adopts a common smartphone ratio, making it more practical for daily use. Meanwhile, the Flip line gains more productivity, while the FE model promises to democratize access to foldables. However, one change is set to spark debate: the end of S Pen support on the more expensive model.
Galaxy Z Fold7 Is Thinner, Lighter and Without Support for S Pen
The main star of the event, the Galaxy Z Fold7, underwent its biggest design transformation to date. Samsung finally responded to user requests and made the device significantly thinner and lighter, with an external screen of 6.5 inches that now has the proportions of a traditional smartphone. When opened, it reveals an 8-inch display and a thickness of just 4.2mm.

After a submarine disappeared beneath the “Doomsday Glacier,” scientists announce a new monstrous machine capable of operating at 3,000 meters depth to return to the heart of the ice and investigate a threat that could raise sea levels worldwide.
Performance has also been enhanced. The device is equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy processor and inherits the 200-megapixel main camera from the Galaxy S25 Ultra, a quality leap for photography on foldables. All the artificial intelligence features of Galaxy AI are also present.
The major controversy, however, is the loss of S Pen support. According to Samsung, the extra layers needed on the internal display for pen compatibility prevented the reduction in the thickness of the device, forcing the company to make a choice in favor of a thinner design.
Galaxy Z Flip7, DeX Mode Arrives for the Compact Foldable

The Galaxy Z Flip7 also received significant updates. The external display has grown to 4.1 inches and now features Vision Booster technology, which improves visibility in sunlight. The internal display, when opened, is 6.9 inches.
The battery was one of the points of improvement, with an increase to 4,300 mAh. The camera setup includes a main sensor of 50 megapixels and a secondary sensor of 12 megapixels, and the device is equipped with the Exynos 2500 processor. The main new feature, however, is the arrival of DeX mode, which allows the phone to transform into a desktop experience. The functionality, however, is limited to wireless connection, requiring a compatible monitor or TV.
The Surprise of the Event, Meet the New Galaxy Z Flip7 FE
Seeking to make foldables more accessible, Samsung introduced the Galaxy Z Flip7 FE. The Fan Edition model arrives as a more budget-friendly option while still retaining important features. It has a slightly smaller internal display of 6.7 inches, but maintains the same 50 MP camera setup as its more expensive sibling.
To reduce costs, some features have been cut. The main one is the absence of support for DeX mode. The purpose of the Z Flip7 FE is to offer the experience of a foldable phone to a broader audience that does not require all advanced productivity features.
What to Expect from the New Generation of Samsung Foldables?

The 2025 line of foldables from Samsung shows a clear strategy. With the Galaxy Z Fold7, the company aims to refine its flagship product, making it more enjoyable for daily use as a regular smartphone, even if it means sacrificing a niche feature like the S Pen.
With the Z Flip line, the strategy is diversification. The Galaxy Z Flip7 becomes a more complete productivity tool with the arrival of DeX, while the Galaxy Z Flip7 FE has the potential to popularize the format, offering the design and cameras of a modern foldable at a more competitive price.
