Nubank Sees Rise in Delinquencies in Brazil But Maintains Credit Expansion Plans Through Year-End. Fintech Recorded Increase in Delays Beyond 90 Days But Bets on Adjustments in Credit Model to Sustain Growth
Nubank Sees Rise in Delinquencies in Brazil but claims it will continue its strategy of expanding credit offerings until December. In the second quarter, the delinquency rate for delays over 90 days rose to 6.6%, an increase of 10 basis points compared to the first three months of the year, according to data released this Thursday (14) by the institution. Despite the deterioration, the company highlighted that the indicators remain within analysts’ expectations.
Delays between 15 and 90 days decreased to 4.4%, while the macroeconomic scenario considered challenging has not significantly impacted the credit portfolio. The fintech operates in Brazil, Mexico, and Colombia and sees room to increase limits and serve more clients, especially in its largest market: Brazil.
Credit Quality Under Pressure
The rise in delinquencies accompanies a broader movement in Brazil. According to the Central Bank, the delinquency rate for individuals reached 4.3% in June, 0.7 percentage points higher than the previous year. Credit cards and personal loans, two of Nubank’s main products, lead the decline in these indices.

Even with the adverse scenario, the company states that “all asset classes are performing equally or better than expected” in the three countries where it operates. To sustain this resilience, the institution adjusted its credit granting model for about one-third of its customer base in Brazil, allowing for selective limit increases.
Growth Strategy
The goal is to apply this new model to the entire Brazilian portfolio by the end of the year. The approach seeks to balance expansion and risk control, maintaining profitability and avoiding abrupt increases in provisions for losses.
Despite the rise in delinquencies, Nubank maintains a positive business outlook. With a market value of US$ 57.6 billion, the fintech recently lost its title as the most valuable bank in Latin America to Itaú but remains among the most relevant financial institutions in the region.
Changes in Leadership and Market Reactions
The year 2025 has also been marked by high-profile executive departures, including Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Vítor Olivier and Chief Operating Officer (COO) Youssef Lahrech. These changes draw attention from investors but have not altered the recovery of the stock, which has gained 15% this year.
The stocks are recovering from sharp declines recorded in February, when the fintech lost US$ 12 billion in market value after results fell below expectations in the fourth quarter of 2024. Since then, confidence has been rebuilt with numbers aligned with projections.

Nao é de hoje, que a analise de credito no Brasil tem sido uma ****. Com a imllantacao do score, tem tirado oportunidade de investidores e consumidores potencial para dar na mao de recem chegados no mercado. Aume tando a inadimplencia, e estagnando o mercado.
