Historic Investment: The Construction of a Rocket in Brazil Is Underway
The construction of a rocket in Brazil has reached a new milestone, and we’re not talking about a science fair model! With a budget of around R$ 93 million, financed by Finep, the country is taking a giant leap towards space with the manufacturing of the largest Brazilian rocket ever planned. With over 500 people involved and repatriated specialists, the initiative promises to shake up the aerospace sector. Will Brazil finally become a space power?
With a generous dose of ambition and a vision for the future, Brazil is embarking on a historic project: the construction of a rocket in Brazil. This grand endeavor was made possible thanks to financial support from Finep, the investment arm of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI), which allocated R$ 93 million for the construction of the RATO-14X, a hypersonic vehicle 14 meters tall and weighing 15 tons.
Mac Jee Will Develop the Rocket Construction in Brazil
The Brazilian company Mac Jee, recognized for its work in the defense and aerospace technology industry, has been chosen to lead the development of the rocket. “The partnership with research institutes, such as ITA, and renowned companies in the sector was essential for us to be selected,” said Danilo Miranda, engineering director at Mac Jee.

The radish leaf that almost everyone throws away has more polyphenols, flavonoids, and fiber than the consumed root, and a 2025 study showed that the leaf contains compounds that protect the intestine, combat inflammation, and may inhibit the growth of cancer cells.
This project is not just about the construction of a rocket, but about creating an infrastructure that will serve as a foundation for other technological initiatives in Brazil.
A Strong Team Drives the Manufacturing
The RATO-14X project already has the collaboration of over 500 people, including key figures in the Brazilian aerospace industry. One of the highlights is Ricardo Pinto, one of the country’s top rocket specialists, who has joined the Mac Jee team. “Our team was carefully selected to ensure the project moves from concept to reality,” explained Rodrigo Gonçalves, COO of Mac Jee.
To ensure that the top brains abroad return to the country, the company created a repatriation project for specialists. Gonçalves emphasizes that “a good salary can retain an engineer for some time, but the true professional seeks technological challenges. And that’s what we are offering.”
The Impact of Finep on National Technological Development
Finep plays a crucial role not only in the construction of a rocket in Brazil but also in overall technological development. The capital invested in the project transcends the manufacturing of the hypersonic vehicle. Brazil will be able to launch its own satellites in the future, which is vital for both innovation and the commercial market, Miranda pointed out.
Gonçalves believes that Brazil is on par with countries like the United States and China when it comes to hypersonic vehicle technology. He highlights that Finep has been instrumental in the sector’s progress in Brazil and that, with more investments, the country could compete directly with major global powers.
A Promising Space Future for Brazil?
The RATO-14X represents an important “brick” for Brazil to be able to launch its own satellites with the help of rockets and gain more technological independence, according to Miranda. The country, which is already an emerging reference in several technological fields, is now seeking its place in the select group of nations capable of competing in the aerospace market.
