Reinventing The Perspective In Automation: The Female Power In Emerging Markets
In the quest to challenge stereotypes and boost the global relevance of Brazilian automation, Brazil Machinery Solutions (BMS) brought together a trio of female journalists with the mission of providing a new perspective on a sector traditionally dominated by men. This effort is part of a larger strategy aimed at promoting the Brazilian automation industry in emerging markets in Latin America and Africa.
Imagem Project: An Initiative To Promote Gender Equality And Global Competitiveness
BMS, a partnership between the Brazilian Machinery and Equipment Industry Association (ABIMAQ) and the Brazilian Agency for Promotion of Exports and Investments (ApexBrasil), reaffirmed its commitment to highlighting the Brazilian automation industry on the global stage. During Expomafe, one of Brazil’s leading automation fairs, BMS invited three influential women from journalism – from Colombia, Peru, and South Africa – to assess the potential and innovations in Brazil’s industrial automation manufacturing sector.

This initiative, known as the Imagem Project, brought a new and important focus this year: strengthening the female voice as an expert in the sector. Journalists Valentina Toro from Revista Manufactura Latam (CO), Karina Pantoja from Correo (PE), and Michelle Gumede from Business Day (ZA) served as ambassadors for this change effort.

“By inviting three female journalists with diverse perspectives, we aimed to challenge a paradigm. The automation sector is largely male-dominated. We needed a new perspective”, said Patrícia Gomes, external market director of ABIMAQ.
Inclusion And Diversity Strategies And Target Markets
The initiative aligns with the new presidency of ApexBrasil, which aims to promote gender equality in the industrial sector. In line with this vision, BMS has taken tangible steps to promote inclusion and diversity, highlighting the importance of female representation.
The choice of the trio of journalists’ origins was also intentional. “We considered the target markets that the Brazilian industry wanted to strengthen and deepen ties. To that end, we consulted BMS members, conducted market research, and identified priority locations. Thus, we arrived at our guests, who came from South Africa, Colombia, and Peru”, added Patrícia.
By positioning the Brazilian automation industry in the markets of Latin America and Africa, BMS reinforces Brazil’s position as a leader in this segment, presenting innovative solutions and advanced technologies.
