xAI, the AI startup founded by Elon Musk, has just taken another important step in its journey to confront OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT. The company announced that it has secured US$ 6 billion in a new Series C funding round, an advanced stage of investment for companies that are already well-established. The round included major players from the financial sector, such as A16Z, BlackRock, Fidelity Management & Research Company, and Sequoia Capital, among others, according to the website Seu Dinheiro.

The investment in the AI startup, xAI, was not limited to traditional funds. In addition to the large investment firms, Nvidia and AMD, two tech giants, also played key roles in the funding round. xAI revealed in a statement that these companies are collaborating to help expand its infrastructure, essential for the rapid growth of the startup.
This capital injection comes at a crucial time for the company, as Elon Musk is in an arms race of AI against OpenAI, maker of ChatGPT, which he co-founded and is now being managed by Sam Altman.

Elon Musk commented on social media, stating: “We’re going to need a bigger computer!”, a direct reference to what seems to be the need for greater processing power to support the company’s advancements. xAI is training its new version of the chatbot Grok 3, which promises to be more sophisticated than previous ones, requiring enormous processing power.
