Renault Latitude Was An Executive Sedan With A 240 HP V6 Engine, A Range Of 700 Km And Premium Comfort, But It Never Officially Arrived In Brazil.

The Renault Latitude was conceived as a bold bet to compete in the large executive sedan segment. It was launched in markets such as Europe, Asia, Australia, and Mexico, where it was sold as Safrane. Its mission was clear: to face established rivals like Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, and Ford Fusion V6.

Manufactured by the South Korean subsidiary Renault Samsung Motors, the Latitude combined the European refinement of the brand with practical solutions from the Asian market. Although it had the potential to attract Brazilian consumers, it was never officially offered in the country, which contributed to its remaining practically unknown here.

240 HP V6 Engine: Power And Smoothness

At the top of the range, the Latitude was equipped with a 3.5 V6 gasoline engine, delivering 240 HP of power and around 31 kgfm of torque.

The six-speed automatic transmission completed the package, ensuring smooth shifts and quiet riding.

This engine provided acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just over 9 seconds and a top speed close to 220 km/h.

It was not a car with sporty pretensions, but rather a sedan designed to offer comfort on roads and confidence during overtaking, without compromising consistent performance.

Consumption And Range Fit For An Executive

Despite its considerable size and powerful engine, the Renault Latitude recorded respectable efficiency figures.

Its averages were around 7.5 km/l in the city and 10 km/l on highways, results suitable for a large V6 sedan.

With a 70-liter fuel tank, the range exceeded 700 km on the highway, allowing for long trips without frequent stops for refueling — a characteristic that reinforced its executive and road profile.

Space And Comfort Of A European Sedan

Another highlight of the Latitude was its interior. With 4.89 meters in length and 2.76 meters in wheelbase, it offered a spacious cabin for five adults to travel comfortably.

The trunk with 477 liters was well-suited for families on long journeys.

The comfort package was generous for the standards of the time:

  • Electric front seats with adjustments and memory
  • Leather interior trim
  • Dual-zone digital air conditioning
  • Premium Bose sound system
  • Cruise control
  • Rain and light sensors

This set placed it on equal footing with Accord and Fusion, in addition to being a more affordable alternative than the Toyota Camry in some international markets.

Why Did It Never Come To Brazil?

Even with good technical arguments, Renault decided not to bring the Latitude to Brazil. The brand’s strategy was to focus on more popular and profitable models like Logan, Sandero, and Duster.

Moreover, the large sedan segment was already facing a decline in market share, precisely due to the rise of SUVs.

Competing against Accord, Camry, and Fusion would require investment in marketing and after-sales that Renault was not willing to make.

Thus, the Latitude remained as a global car but restricted to markets where there was greater demand for large sedans.

A Forgotten Sedan, But Full Of Attributes

The Renault Latitude is now a little-remembered car, even in the countries where it was sold. But its attributes remain notable: 240 HP V6 engine, balanced consumption, a range of 700 km, and a spacious, refined cabin.

In Brazil, it became just an automotive curiosity — a model that could have offered a different option to consumers seeking a premium sedan, but never officially hit our streets.
