Taking The Airport To A New Level, Today A New Inspection Channel And Boarding Gates 3, 4, 5, And 6 Were Inaugurated.

December 2022, Belo Horizonte, Brazil – Passenger Terminal 1, the only international terminal in Minas Gerais, recently completed its first construction phase. Consequently, the airport now has a more modern domestic boarding area, complete with a streamlined inspection channel. It is worth noting that the older section of the boarding lounge, including gates 3, 4, 5, and 6, has also been updated to resemble Passenger Terminal 2 more closely.

The goal of the update was to provide the original terminal with the same level of convenience as the new Passenger Terminal 2. Passenger Terminal 1 was built nearly 30 years ago and did not undergo a major update until now. The aim of the renovation and modernization was to create an aesthetically pleasing whole by incorporating new elements into the pre-existing spaces. The impact can be immediately perceived by passengers trying to board domestic flights,” says Gustavo Anfra, Airport Development Manager at BH Airport.

He states that one of the best things about the renovation is the architectural layout, which attempts to update the building so that it can accommodate modern mobility needs without compromising the integrity of the original vision of architect Milton Ramos. With the slogan “From Minas To The World,” the concept’s goal has always been to provide a conceptual framework for the terminal. “I want the architecture to be seen as a powerful tool for recognition and appreciation of Minas Gerais’ rich history and culture,” he states.

Currently, Terminals 1 and 2 of the airport total 26 boarding bridges. Gates 1 to 16 are all located in Terminal 1. Passenger Terminal 2 starts from there and continues up to number 17. Built in 2016, it is state-of-the-art and offers travelers a variety of amenities.

The commercial space of Passenger Terminal 1 will be expanded as part of a remodeling project led by Fernandes Arquitetos Associados. The improvements, which cost around R$ 100 million, helped solidify the airport’s status as a hub, or distribution point for flights, thanks to its advantageous position and extensive road and rail network. Direct flights now connect the terminal to around 50 different cities.

Our goal is to provide our passengers with the best possible service at all times. The completion of this first phase marks a significant milestone in the airport’s journey toward even greater success. Everyone at the airport, from passengers to tourists, can now enjoy better facilities. Additionally, it is noted, “we are increasing our commercial areas by a factor of 100, which is indicative of the variety of our commercial mix.”

Dufry Megastore Opens Operations

One of the highlights, revealed after the first phase of renovations, is the Dufry megastore of nearly 1,000 square meters, laid out in a passage format. The construction serves as an entrance to the brand new boarding area of the airport. The airport’s Duty Free contract was recently extended by the leading travel retail brand in the industry until 2029. With a current portfolio of ten Duty Free, Duty Paid, and Hudson News stores, the company announced its intention to build three additional Duty Paid locations.

More than seventy different companies currently operate at the airport. More than thirty additional points are expected for 2023. As part of its efforts to diversify its product offerings, BH Airport opened 15 new stores in just 11 months that year (2022). New California Coffee, Dufry Wines, Dufry Candy, and Doog kiosks were inaugurated in the domestic terminal in the first half of this year. Pandora, an international jewelry brand, and a new Subway store have just opened in the airport’s boarding lounge.

Kopenhagen was the last of the new openings of the semester to start in week 2. The airport’s lounge was the focus of new facility inaugurations during the second half of the year. Pizza Hut and Rokkon, a Japanese cuisine restaurant, as well as the newest kiosks of Cacau Show and Goccia Di Latte, have already opened their doors to the public. A wine bar and a small restaurant called La Vincola and another Italian gelato named Goccia Di Latte were inaugurated in July. Additionally, Dufry Express was launched.
