Rio de Janeiro, January 4, 2021 – Ocyan has been certified by IBP, the Brazilian Petroleum Institute, to offer the market another service modality: the calibration of safety instruments and valves. This achievement came after a recertification audit of the Self-Service Inspection of Equipment (SPIE) system, in which the management and auditing of calibration execution methods by the company itself were verified. One of Ocyan’s differentiators is having its own Instrument Calibration structure and issuing calibration reports within three days, which is half the time currently practiced in the market.
“We have been working for a year on the development of this new service in our assets, which has given us robust experience and a mature learning curve. With this certification granted by the Brazilian Petroleum Institute (IBP), we can advance and actively position ourselves in the market to offer the service to other companies. With this, we are expanding our service portfolio in the maintenance and offshore services (MSO) area,” celebrates Vinicius Castilho, MSO Contracts Director of the company.
Among the activities carried out by Ocyan in this new scope is the management of calibration services based on ISO/IEC 17025, an international reference for testing and calibration laboratories that wish to demonstrate their technical capability and competence to provide reliable and valid results; calibration of PSVs (safety valves), instruments and positive and negative pressure transmitters, and temperature meters and transmitters according to applicable norms and standards.

“Previously, we outsourced this activity, but we realized that the company had accumulated the experience to develop it internally and start offering it to the market. Today, we have planning gains embedded throughout the maintenance chain, a complete view of the entire process, which reaffirms our technical capacity and differentiates us, with a highly technical and specialized team. We are not only presenting calibration to the market, but the integrated management of these services,” explains Renato Costa, Contracts Director of Ocyan’s Drilling Unit.
This work was developed in conjunction with the drilling and maintenance business areas, and it featured a unique management and organization of the workflow, which allows for cost reduction and optimization of activity time. Both highlight that calibration services are carried out in a refrigerated laboratory container with a controlled environment and under the supervision of the Ocyan SPIE team.
