Arrests And Searches Reveal Irregularities In Workshops In The DF, Focused On Elderly Attracted By Cheap Services And Surprised By High Charges.
An action by the authorities of the Federal District led to the detention of five individuals and the execution of 11 searches in the DF and Goiás in an investigation into irregular practices in auto repair shops, with over 80 victims and estimated damages of around R$ 600 thousand.
The initiative, named Operation Rota Scan III, was carried out on February 25 and focused on a group suspected of deceiving customers within workshops, especially the elderly, who were lured by offers of automotive services at prices below the market.
According to the information released, consumers were led to pay high amounts after receiving estimates considered abusive, often for questionable services, and some reported strong pressure and retention of the vehicle until the charged amount was paid.

The investigations indicate an organized operation, with strategies to hinder the identification of those responsible and keep the activities running through different business registrations.
Tire Scam: Attractive Advertisement And Charging Above Expected
According to data gathered in the investigation, the first contact occurred through advertisements promising competitive prices for simple services, such as tire changes, alignment, and balancing, which reduced initial suspicion and led the driver to the workshop.
On-site, the customer was informed that the vehicle had additional urgent problems, with a quote that increased rapidly, supported by technical assessments difficult to verify at the time of service.
When the consumer questioned the prices or the necessity of repairs, there was a shift in the customer service approach, with insistence on immediate payment and situations where the car remained in the workshop until the presented amount was settled.
The described method exploited the surprise and vulnerability of the customer in the face of a supposed technical analysis, reducing the time for reflection and the search for external advice.
Elderly Among The Main Affected
The data indicates that the elderly are among the main identified victims, as they are considered more susceptible to accepting technical explanations without immediate contestation, especially in a pressured environment.
By focusing the approach on low-complexity services, the group expanded the reach of the practice and created a sense of urgency, in which the customer already found themselves with the vehicle disassembled or under maintenance.
The estimated damages of R$ 600 thousand were calculated based on the formalized records, but the total could increase if other individuals seek official channels to report similar situations.
Companies In Third-Party Names And Continuity Of Activities
As stated by the authorities, those involved had already been targeted in previous actions related to similar practices in the workshop and tire trade sector in the Federal District.
To continue operating, according to the investigation, changes were made to social contracts and business registrations in the names of third parties, a practice that made it difficult to link the establishments directly to the same individuals responsible.
This dynamic allowed the maintenance of activities even after inspection actions, with formal changes in the administration of the companies but preservation of the operational method.
Lago Norte And Standard Of Living Under Analysis
Among those detained is a suspect identified as the leader of the group, and reports from local media indicate that he resided in Lago Norte, in a property with an estimated rent of R$ 20 thousand per month, an amount that is believed to have been paid with funds obtained from the investigated activities.
The investigation is ongoing to map the financial movements, identify all those involved, and locate other potential victims.
With the searches carried out in the DF and Goiás, the authorities seek to expand the set of information about the group’s activities and assess the extent of irregularities in the local automotive service market.
