With Urban Consumption of Up to 21.3 km/l and Modern Design, the Omoda 5 Hybrid Debuts in Brazil in the Second Half of 2025. Positioned Below R$ 200,000, the SUV from the Chinese Brand Promises to Compete with the Jeep Compass and the Hybrids from Toyota and GWM.

The hybrid SUV segment in Brazil has just gained another competitor — and one that arrives with force. The Omoda 5 hybrid, which will officially debut in the second half of 2025, promises to combine bold style, efficient technology, and an accessible economy proposal. With a futuristic appearance and mechanics inspired by the Toyota Corolla Cross, the model emerges as a direct alternative to the Jeep Compass, especially in versions with flex or diesel engines.

Autoesporte’s report was in China to test the Omoda 5 HEV on a real route of about 300 km, passing through urban and highway areas. And the numbers are impressive: urban consumption reached 21.3 km/l, a rare result for medium SUVs in Brazil.

Non-Plug-In Hybrid: How the Omoda 5 HEV System Works

Unlike many Chinese models currently sold in Brazil, which use plug-in systems (PHEV), the Omoda 5 hybrid adopts a parallel architecture (HEV). This means that the driver does not need to connect the vehicle to a power outlet to recharge: electrical energy is recovered through the operation of the combustion engine and the regenerative braking system.

In practice, the car uses electric propulsion at low speeds — such as when starting at a traffic light or navigating through congestion — while the combustion engine takes over at medium and high RPMs. The result is significant fuel savings without the concern of charging infrastructure, still limited in the country.

Up to 21.3 km/l in the City: Consumption is a Highlight Among Medium SUVs

During the test in Chinese territory, the Omoda 5 HEV recorded an urban consumption of 21.3 km/l, according to the onboard computer. The average was obtained on well-paved streets and with gasoline of better quality than Brazilian, but still represents one of the best marks among hybrid SUVs in the national market.

This performance puts the Omoda 5 at an advantage over direct rivals such as the Jeep Compass and the Volkswagen T-Cross, especially for those seeking economy without sacrificing size and comfort. Energy efficiency also rivals established models like the Corolla Cross Hybrid.

Aggressive Design, Medium Size, and Coupe Style

In addition to efficient mechanics, the Omoda 5 hybrid bets on design to win over Brazilian consumers. With a coupe style and dimensions similar to the Jeep Compass, the SUV measures 4.42 meters in length, 1.83 m in width, and 1.59 m in height, with a wheelbase of 2.63 meters.

The front features a real grille with a glossy black finish and interwoven diamonds, different from the electric version. The headlights are divided into two blocks — with narrow DRLs at the top and main headlights below. At the rear, the highlight goes to the interconnected taillights, clearly inspired by the design of the Lexus NX.

The body has C-pillars with a “floating” finish and bumpers with brushed steel details, reinforcing the proposal of sophistication. If there’s one point that could be criticized, it’s the design of the 18” wheels, which mix black and silver, but clash with the aggressive style of the rest of the vehicle.

Interior with Good Finish and Floating Center Console

Inside, the Omoda 5 hybrid impresses with a finish superior to what is usually seen in Chinese models in the same price range. The dashboard integrates the multimedia center and the instrument cluster in a single floating strip, with a design similar to that of Mercedes-Benz models.

The center console is high and has two levels. The upper part features details that mimic dark varnished wood, while the lower portion of the dashboard has rubberized material and synthetic leather finish. The rear doors, although using hard plastic, maintain good assembly.

The 10.3-inch multimedia center has good usability but could be more responsive to touch. The screen shows some delay in quick commands, and the resolution, even at maximum brightness, is only reasonable.

Mechanical Set: 1.5 Turbo Engine + Electric

The Omoda 5 HEV shares its base with the Tiggo 5X and brings under the hood a 1.5 TCI gasoline engine, with 143 horsepower at 5,000 rpm and torque of 21.9 kgfm at 1,750 rpm. The novelty is the integration with a front electric motor, responsible for assisting in starts and low speeds.

The combined power and torque of both motors have not yet been officially disclosed, but it is estimated that they exceed 160 hp. The traction is always front-wheel drive, and the transmission is a CVT type simulating gears, a common system in hybrids.

The lithium-ion battery has a 1.83 kWh capacity, surpassing that of the Corolla Cross, which has 1.3 kWh and uses nickel technology — less efficient. The system prioritizes simplicity and does not require complex maintenance.

Price and Positioning: Below R$ 200,000 to Compete with the Compass

One of the main attractions of the Omoda 5 hybrid will be its price. The brand confirmed that the HEV version will arrive in Brazil priced below R$ 200,000, positioning itself to compete directly with the entry-level versions of the Jeep Compass and even with top-of-the-line compact SUVs like the VW T-Cross Highline, Honda HR-V Touring, and Hyundai Creta Ultimate.

The electric version of the Omoda 5 is already sold in Brazil for R$ 209,990. With the cheaper hybrid model, the brand hopes to attract a public that desires fuel economy without sacrificing sophistication and space.

When Will It Arrive in Brazil?

The launch of the Omoda 5 HEV in Brazil is confirmed for the second half of 2025, with the first units expected to arrive at dealerships in the last quarter of the year. The import will be made directly from China, and the brand is already working on expanding its network in the country.

Additionally, there is an expectation that the model will be localized in the medium term, especially if sales are substantial. Omoda Jaecoo is part of the Chery group, which already operates in Brazil in partnership with Caoa, which could facilitate potential local production.

With a bold appearance, impressive consumption of up to 21.3 km/l, and a competitive price below R$ 200,000, the Omoda 5 hybrid arrives in Brazil as one of the great Chinese bets to compete in a heated segment — that of electrified medium SUVs.

Capable of rivaling the Jeep Compass, the Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid, and even older premium models, the Omoda 5 HEV offers a package that is hard to ignore. And with the advancement of Chinese brands in design and technology, the competition for the top of the segment is only likely to intensify.
