Nighttime Interdiction Mobilized Special Operation in Serra das Araras and Changed Traffic on Via Dutra

The Serra das Araras, one of the most critical sections of BR-116 (Via Dutra), had the uphill lane towards São Paulo closed on the night of this Sunday (01/11/2026) to allow the passage of an exceptionally large truck. The operation, conducted by the concessionaire RioSP, required meticulous planning, strict traffic control, and a special signaling scheme, given the direct impact on the main road link between Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo.

According to the concessionaire, the interdiction occurred from 10 PM on Sunday until 5 AM on this Monday (01/12/2026), a period chosen specifically to minimize impacts on the intense flow of vehicles. Despite this, drivers traveling through the region were advised to be extra cautious, especially at the crossover points between lanes.

The information was disclosed by RioSP, the concessionaire responsible for administering Via Dutra, which detailed the entire planning of the operation through its official communication channels.

Extreme Dimensions of the Load Required Unprecedented Logistics and Controlled Movement

The transport involved a truck with a width of 6 meters and a length of 106 meters, carrying a transformer weighing a total of 647 tons. The vehicle is in transit towards the Port of Itaguaí, in Rio de Janeiro, which makes the operation even more complex due to the geometric limitations of the highway and the topographical conditions of Serra das Araras.

Precisely because of these dimensions that are out of the standard, it was necessary to set up a special logistics scheme, involving technical escorts, temporary blockages, reinforced signaling, and operational adjustments along the route. Unlike conventional transport, every meter traveled requires absolute control of speed, slope, and alignment of the truck.

In addition, the concessionaire stated that any climatic change or operational adjustment could alter schedules and stages of the movement, which reinforces the level of complexity of the operation and the care needed to ensure total safety.

Controlled Route, Guidance to Drivers, and Information Channels

During the operation, the transport set made the crossing from the downhill lane (toward Rio de Janeiro) to the uphill lane (toward São Paulo) at km 233, proceeding to km 224, where it returned to the downhill lane. It then advanced to km 221, in Paracambi, a location designated for a new technical stop.

Meanwhile, RioSP advised drivers to plan their trips in advance, avoiding the section during the interdiction period. Those traveling in the direction of Rio de Janeiro were warned to strictly respect the signaling and speed limits, as the presence of the convoy alters the normal dynamics of the highway.

For updated information on traffic on Via Dutra, users could consult WhatsApp (11) 2795-2238, the official website of the concessionaire, or Disque RioSP – 0800 017 3536, channels that centralize real-time data on special operations and road conditions.

Did you pass through Via Dutra, in Serra das Araras, during the early hours of Sunday and manage to see up close the passage of one of the largest special transports ever carried out in that section?
