Pan American Energy announces investment of BRL 3 billion in a new wind power plant in Bahia

The Pan American Energy group, with financing from the National Bank for Social Development (BNDES), will invest billions in the construction of a new wind power plant in Bahia.

O National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) approved financing from Pan American Energy for the construction of a new wind power plant. The bank will also finance a wind complex and a solar plant and their respective transmission lines, in the states of Bahia and Minas Gerais. In total, the company will invest R$ 3 billion in the wind power plant, which will have an installed capacity of 423 MW. With total investments exceeding R$ 10,6 billion, the bank's participation will be made through the program BNDES Finem.

The company's venture marks the group's arrival in Brazil. A Pan American Energy also operates in Uruguay, Bolivia, Paraguay, Mexico and Argentina. O Wind Complex Novo Horizonte, from the Pan American Energy Group, located in the Bahian municipalities of Novo Horizonte, Boninal, Ibitiara, Brotas de Macaúbas, Oliveira dos Brejinhos and Piatã, is made up of 10 wind farms, eight of which will receive support of R$ 900 million from the BNDES for its installation.

The venture would add up to investments of R$ 3 billion, with an installed capacity of 423 MW of total power. The new plant also comprises 79 km of 500 kV transmission lines and a power substation to connect the wind farm to the National Interconnected System (SIN). It is also in the bank's plans to finance the Serra do Assuruá wind energy complex, developed by the Engie Group, which is located in the municipality of Gentio do Ouro, in Bahia.

After the BRL 1,5 billion loan from the BNDES, the project is expected to start generating electricity, in stages, from July 2024 to June 2025.

BNDES Bank will also support the installation of a solar plant

Besides wind power plant of the Pan American Energy Group, the bank will also finance the Solar Boa Sorte Complex, of the Atlas Group. The venture will consist of eight solar plants and is located in the mining town of Paracatu. The bank's support will be R$ 1,1 billion.

The scope of the project also covers the installation of supervision, control, security, local and remote monitoring, as well as communications systems. The complex will have over 778 solar energy panels. The venture's operations are expected to start in January 2025.

Pan American Energy partners with Vestas

In May of last year, Pan signed a contract with Vestas for 94 V150-4,5 MW wind turbines to be supplied and installed for the Novo Horizonte wind farm, located in Bahia.

According to Eduardo Ricotta, president of Vestas in Latin America, Vestas is pleased to further expand its partnership with Pan American Energy, supporting its expansion in Latin America with this wind energy project that begins its activities to produce clean energy in the Brazil.

The Vice President of International Development at Pan American Energy, Enrique Lusso, points out that the agreement shows the company's commitment to Brazil and its communities.

The company will continue to expand its investments and strive to become a player strategic in the country's energy sector, as well as in other Latin American countries. Upon completion of the turbines for the wind farm, Vestas will also close a service contract Active Output Management 5000 for 20 years.
