Votorantim Cimentos, Construction Materials Company, Partnered with Nexway Efficiency to Reduce Annual Energy Consumption at Its Factory Located in Cantagalo, Rio de Janeiro
Votorantim Cimentos joined a project developed and implemented by the energy efficiency company of the Comerc Energia Group, Nexway Efficiency, which promises to reduce the annual energy consumption of the contractor by 5,900 MWh. The project was developed after a detailed study, which resulted in a 55% reduction in energy consumption from some equipment and a 6% overall energy reduction for the entire unit. For this, energy expenses and the equipment used on-site were considered, in addition to the replacement of some operating motors with newer and more efficient models and the installation of a new transformer and new electrical panels.

Factory in RJ Becomes More Environmentally Sustainable
With this plan, the Cantagalo factory becomes even more environmentally sustainable, as the unit is expected to reduce CO2 emissions by 1,680 tons, according to projections made by Nexway.
“Implementing a tailored energy efficiency project like this provides reductions in energy consumption for the unit and greater reliability in the production process, as more modern equipment has fewer unplanned downtimes. Not to mention the costs associated with corrective maintenance, which are also reduced,” says Nexway Efficiency’s executive director, Marcel Haratz. “By reducing waste and optimizing electricity consumption, savings are guaranteed. And, through energy efficiency, it is also possible to reduce the carbon footprint, contributing not only to the sustainability of the business but also to the environment,” he adds.

Votorantim Cimentos prioritizes efficiency projects in all locations where it operates. Recently, at the Cantagalo factory, the company invested in modernizing the equipment that performs co-processing – a method that allows the substitution of fossil fuels and traditional raw materials in cement production, which consequently reduces the use of non-renewable natural resources directly linked to CO2 emissions.
Alongside this project, Nexway will donate approximately 1,000 tree seedlings to be planted in the Nexway Forest, in partnership with Reservas Votorantim, manager of environmental assets of Votorantim S.A, which is responsible for managing the Legado das Águas, the largest private reserve of Atlantic Forest in the country.
