Paraná Has Just Signed an Agreement with a German State Focused on Investments in Clean Energy and Sustainability, Besides Addressing the Issue of Chicken and Pig Waste.

On Thursday (4), Paraná signed a bilateral cooperation agreement with the German state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, in the northeastern region of the European country. The cooperation aims at investments in the clean energy, environmental technologies, and circular economy sectors. In addition to sustainability, the agreement is also linked to education, sports, culture, and partnerships between municipalities in Paraná and Germany.

The Agreement Between Paraná and the German State Will Also Address Waste Issues

The agreement on investments in the clean energy sector was virtually signed by Darci Piana, the Deputy Governor of Paraná, at the Iguaçu Palace in Curitiba, and by the head of the German state’s chancellery, Patrick Dahlemann, in the city of Rostock, Germany.

The bilateral agreement is the result of a visit by a German delegation to Paraná in January. During the event, German entrepreneurs came to learn about business opportunities in the clean energy sector in Toledo, in the southwestern part of the state, which is one of the largest producers of pigs and chickens in the country.

According to Piana, representatives from the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern were present in Toledo with a proposal to create a consortium to address the waste issue from chicken and pig production in 17 cities in the region.

Investment in Sustainability

This was the first step of a major investment in sustainability that German entrepreneurs will make in Paraná. The Deputy Governor also emphasizes that the agreement signed on Thursday will lead to not only investments in clean energy but also solutions for environmental issues regarding waste disposal in chicken and pig production.

Paraná is already the state most focused on sustainability in Brazil, and with this agreement, it will advance even further in addressing the waste problem. The state currently processes about 10 million chickens per day, and the recently opened slaughterhouse in Assis Chateaubriand processes 18 thousand pigs daily.

Germany Is a Global Reference in the Use of Biogas Plants for Gas Production

The Head of the Chancellery of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Patrick Dahlemann, highlighted the capacity of German and Brazilian companies to assist each other in commercial agreements that bring benefits to both sides.

Patrick states that the chancellery is very pleased to sign this sustainability investment agreement with Paraná, resulting from discussions that took place in January during the visit. The agreement focused on clean energy is accompanied by a series of conversations happening in Germany with about 40 Brazilian companies that came to the III Forum for the Development of New Sustainable Partnerships between Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and Brazil.

The president of Invest Paraná, Eduardo Bekin, emphasizes that Germany is a global reference in the use of biogas plants for gas production. These systems enhance organic decomposition, extracting gases from waste that can be used in industry and other activities. For Bekin, there was an opportunity to combine Germany’s know-how with Paraná’s raw material production, especially in the Toledo region, a major pork producer in the country.

Paraná May Start Producing Fertilizers

According to Bekin, as part of the bilateral investment agreement in clean energy, German companies can partner with cooperatives and other agribusiness firms in the state to reduce the environmental impact of animal protein production.

According to the president of Invest Paraná, with this agreement, the state government is being a major driver for pig farmers in the state and German companies to establish partnerships focused on the correct disposal of waste, generating not only gases but also fertilizers, thus preventing organic material from harming the environment.
