The Parliamentary Front in Defense of the Navy Industry of the State of Rio de Janeiro Will Be Launched Next Monday (08/12) at ALERJ
After yet another sad news of shipyard closures in Brazil, The EAS of Ipojuca (PE) Suspended Its Activities Indefinitely, members of ALERJ decided to relaunch the Parliamentary Front in Defense of the Navy Industry of the State of Rio de Janeiro.
The committee will be chaired by state deputy Waldeck Carneiro (PT), its creator, and will be launched in a ceremony in Rio de Janeiro next Monday (08/12).
According to the deputy, the intention behind the creation of the parliamentary front is to discuss the current legislation of the naval and offshore industry and to fight for job creation.
“We want to mobilize society in Rio de Janeiro in defense of the recovery of the naval industry, the resumption of investments in COmperj, the maintenance of local content policies, and resistance to Petrobras’ current policy,” he explained.

Former Job Creator
The naval industry, which once employed 84,000 direct workers and more than 780,000 indirect workers in Brazil, now suffers from a crisis and lack of policies.
In the last four years alone, about 60,000 jobs have been closed, most of them with excellent qualifications.
The parliamentarian also emphasized that the scope of the Front for the Defense of the Naval Industry of Rio de Janeiro will not be limited to the state.
“We will mobilize, for this purpose, the federal delegation from Rio de Janeiro and will summon class entities and institutions interested in the economic development of the state. We will also promote discussions, symposiums, seminars, and other events relevant to the sector, in addition to supporting claims regarding the necessary infrastructure for the promotion of the naval industry in the State of Rio de Janeiro,” highlighted Waldeck.
According to a survey by the Sinaval (National Union of the Shipbuilding and Offshore Industry), there are currently 25,000 jobs in the sector in the country, but the trend is for this number to decrease, and Rio de Janeiro is the state that has closed the most job positions, with 25,000 losses.
