Petrobras Will Be Capturing Commercial Projects for the Installation of Fields That Will Assist in Prolonging Production Cycle and Development of the Asset
The Brazilian operator Petrobras intends to optimize the water injection systems in the mature Ubarana field, in the Potiguar Basin, in order to attempt to maximize the recoverability of its reserves and increase the useful life of production in shallow waters (400 m or less). In this second week of March, Petrobras will likely begin to receive commercial bids, in order to install optical cables to connect the offshore fixed unit PUB-3 in the Ubarana asset to the industrial hub of Guamaré.
The invited companies will present their proposals to introduce an electrical power cable into the ocean about 19.2 kilometers long, which will be safeguarded by Petrobras, for the standardization of PUB-3.

As described in the regulations of this bidding process, the cable will be introduced into a pipeline/duct on land that is currently unused and measures 12 inches in diameter, following its branching along the coast to Guamaré.
The company that ultimately wins this bid will be required to conduct pre/post-lay surveys to inspect the path and mitigate, even eliminate, interferences in the installation of these cables, in order to ensure that the project is executed with absolute success.
Petrobras will also provide offshore support vessels with dynamic positioning technology and a barge for operational support.
The expectation is that this contract will start in 2019, with activities planned for 10 months of work. This mechanism will make it possible for Petrobras to carry out water injection in the western sector of the field, allowing it to evaluate and determine new statistics (in barrels) that it will be able to recover.
The company responsible for manufacturing the electromechanical cable is the Italian company Prysmian, through its headquarters in Brazil, the project was conceived to last for 25 years, that is, until 2034, when the contract in Ubarana will end.
Discovered by Petrobras in November 1973 in 16 meters of water off the northeast coast of Brazil, Ubarana began production in June 1976.
Ubarana originally produced from 14 fixed platforms with the two main systems – PUB-2 and PUB-3, also responsible for receiving outputs from satellite units and nearby fields, such as Cioba, Agulha, and West of Ubarana.
Production in Ubarana peaked in 1986, with 18,600 barrels per day of oil. The field is currently producing about 1,800 bpd. Petrobras is currently in the process of selling its 100% stake in Ubarana, along with its operational interests in the fields of Cioba, Agulha, West of Ubarana, Pescada, and Arabaiana.
However, the market regulator ANP has given Petrobras until the end of the year to make the necessary investments to increase production in Ubarana, as well as to outline a schedule for the definitive abandonment of wells and a plan to dismantle old platforms.
Petrobras has already spent over 90% of the total investment for the implementation of the water injection program in Ubarana, including recompletions of oil wells and injectors.
