UPGN works at the Itaboraí Gaslub Hub will ensure the flow of 21 million m³/d of natural gas produced in the pre-salt layer
Petrobras, continuing the statement released on 11/07/22, informs that it terminated the contract with SPE Kerui-Método, responsible for the work on the Natural Gas Processing Units (UPGN) at the Polo Gaslub de Itaboraí.
As a result of this fact, and with the aim of minimizing impacts on the entry into operation of the Integrated Project Rota 3, Petrobras has already started the hiring necessary for the completion of works in the remaining scope of the UPGN and plans to start gas processing operations at the GasLub Hub in 2024.
"Petrobras clarifies that it made every possible effort with the SPE Kerui-Método with the objective of maintaining the execution of the contract, but there was no success in the negotiations", said the state-owned company in the statement.
UPGN is part of the scope of the Rota 3 Project
For those who don't know, natural gas enters the GasLub Hub through the Guapimirim-Comperj I gas pipeline (Gaserj) and makes it possible for the utility systems to start operations, mainly the Steam Generation and Distribution Unit.
It is worth noting that the UPGN is part of the scope of the Rota 3 Project, which also involves the gas pipeline (composed of submarine and land sections) and the infrastructure for operation and control and utility systems (steam, water, compressed air, power and others). ).

The project will have the capacity to drain and process 21 million cubic meters per day of natural gas from the Santos Basin pre-salt complex. Together, Route 3 and Routes 1 (UPGN Caraguatatuba/SP) and 2 (Cabiúnas Terminal/RJ) – the last two already in operation – will provide a total capacity to drain 44 million cubic meters of gas per day.
“More than a set of installations and processing units, we are dealing with a multipurpose project of great strategic value for Brazil, which will contribute to greater national energy security”, said the former president of Petrobras, Joaquim Silva e Luna. “The natural gas that arrives in Itaboraí makes us envision a promising scenario for attracting petrochemicals, steel mills, fertilizer plants, glass and ceramics factories, among several other industries, which will form the dreamed GasLub Industrial Complex”.
