UPGN Works at the Gaslub Hub in Itaboraí Will Ensure the Flow of 21 Million m³/d of Natural Gas Produced in the Pre-Salt
Petrobras, in continuation of the statement released on 07/11/22, informs that it has terminated the contract with SPE Kerui-Método, responsible for the construction of the Natural Gas Processing Units (UPGN) at the Gaslub Hub in Itaboraí.
As a result of this, and in order to minimize the impact on the start of operations of the Integrated Project Rota 3, Petrobras has already begun the necessary contracting for the completion of the remaining scope of the UPGN and expects to start gas processing operations at the GasLub Hub in 2024.
“Petrobras clarifies that it has made every possible effort with SPE Kerui-Método to maintain the execution of the contract, but the negotiations were unsuccessful”, said the state-owned company in the statement.

UPGN Is Part of the Rota 3 Project Scope
For those who do not know, the entry of natural gas into the GasLub Hub occurs through the Guapimirim-Comperj I gas pipeline (Gaserj) and enables the start of operations of the utility systems, mainly the Steam Generation and Distribution Unit.
It is worth noting that the UPGN is part of the scope of the Rota 3 Project, which also involves the gas pipeline (composed of submarine and terrestrial segments) and the infrastructure for operation and control and the utility systems (steam, water, compressed air, power, and others).
The project will have the capacity to flow and process 21 million cubic meters per day of natural gas from the pre-salt hub of the Santos Basin. Together, Rota 3 and Routes 1 (UPGN Caraguatatuba/SP) and 2 (Cabiúnas Terminal/RJ) – the last two already in operation — will provide a total capacity to flow 44 million cubic meters of gas per day.
“More than a set of installations and processing units, we are dealing with a multipurpose project of great strategic value for Brazil, which will contribute to greater national energy security,” said the former president of Petrobras, Joaquim Silva e Luna. “The natural gas that arrives in Itaboraí allows us to envision a promising scenario for attracting petrochemicals, steel mills, fertilizer plants, glass and ceramics factories, among various other industries, that will form the dreamed GasLub Industrial Complex.”
