Petrobras Extends Usage of Noble Discoverer Rig in Colombia Until 2026, Advancing the Sirius Project for Gas Exploration.
Petrobras has formed a long-term partnership with Noble Corporation, one of the global leaders in offshore drilling. This collaboration recently achieved a significant new milestone with the extension of the contract for the use of the Noble Discoverer rig in the Sirius project, located off the coast of Colombia.
Expansion of the Noble Discoverer Rig Contract
In December 2023, Petrobras signed an initial contract with Noble Corporation to use the Noble Discoverer rig in the Sirius project, which involves drilling offshore wells off the coast of Colombia.
The initial contract was for 400 days, but due to the success of the operations and the importance of the rig to the project, Petrobras exercised the extension option, prolonging the use of the rig for an additional 390 days. Consequently, the contract is now extended until August 2026.

Advances in the Sirius Project: Formation Testing at Well Sirius-2
The Sirius project is a strategic initiative by Petrobras in partnership with Ecopetrol, a Colombian oil company.
One of the important milestones of this partnership was the successful completion of formation testing at well Sirius-2.
These tests are essential to evaluate the geological and pressure conditions of the natural gas reservoir, as well as to allow adjustments to the design of future gas treatment facilities.
During the tests, the pressure data obtained showed a good correlation with the geological model of the reservoir, validating the predictions made based on seismic interpretation of the area.
This not only confirms the quality of the prior analysis but also ensures that the project is on the right track to achieve efficient gas production.
The characterization of the fluids collected was also a crucial aspect of the tests, as it will help optimize the gas treatment facilities and, consequently, the exploration and production of energy in the future.
The Next Phase: Development of the Gas Field
With the initial formation tests successfully completed, the Sirius project is moving to the preparation phase for field development.
The goal now is to initiate the works and processes necessary to enable natural gas production in the region.
The forecast is that natural gas produced from the Sirius field will start to be supplied by the end of the decade, ensuring a reliable source of energy for Colombia and helping to diversify energy sources in the country.
