“We have adjusted our refining processes and are ready to anticipate the quality standard expected for 2022. This way, we ensure superior quality gasoline produced at Petrobras refineries,” said the Director of Refining and Natural Gas at Petrobras, Anelise Lara, in a separate statement sent to journalists.
Petrobras argued that the new gasoline standard has greater efficiency, which will allow for reduced consumption per kilometer driven, in addition to contributing to better engine performance.

“The gain in yield of 5%, on average, provided by the new gasoline will compensate for any price difference in gasoline, as the consumer will drive more kilometers per liter,” the company highlighted in the press release.
The new specification also makes it harder to commit fraud with gasoline, combating the use of low-quality solvents and naphthas for adulterating the product sold to consumers, the state-owned company added.
Petrobras – Gasoline Price
The price of fuel is determined by the quotation in the international market and other variables such as the price of a barrel of oil, freight, and exchange rates. Therefore, these factors can vary up or down and are more influential on the price than the additional cost of specification.
Additionally, it is worth noting that Petrobras is responsible for only 30% of the final gasoline price at service stations. The remaining portions consist of taxes, the price of the added ethanol, and the margins of distributors and resellers.
