Brazilian Giant Starts Looking for SDSV to Work in Espírito Santo on Initial Six-Month Contract
Petrobras has launched a new bidding process for the chartering of a shallow dive support vessel to assist operations in the state of Espírito Santo, marking a restart of the ship supply contracting activity after a long hiatus. Petrobras has set February 8 to receive commercial proposals for a Brazilian-flagged SDSV that can support operations in up to 50 meters of water and is equipped with remote operation capability to work at depths of 3000 meters.
Unlike previous bids, Petrobras is offering a shorter contract for a period of only six months, renewable for the same period, with operations starting later this year.
“Petrobras is changing the way they are approaching the market a bit,” said sources.

“In the past, they would hire vessels for two, three, or four years to do all kinds of work anywhere they deemed necessary.
“Now, the company is starting to offer service contracts to meet a very specific demand, so we can expect Petrobras’ fleet to be even more streamlined for cost purposes,” added the source.
The SDSV contracted will be hired by Petrobras’ UO-ES division and can be used in the Parque das Baleias complex, as well as in the Roncador, Albacora, and Albacora Leste fields in the Campos Basin, and in the Golfinho field in the Espírito Santo Basin.
Companies such as DOF Subsea, Solstad Offshore, Bram Offshore, CBO, Wilson Sons, Asso Maritima, OceanPact, Belov Engenharia, Oceanica, and Sistac Sistemas are expected to participate in the bidding to provide the SDSV.
The winning bidder will have to provide the SDSV but can designate a different company to carry out shallow diving operations.
If a consortium is formed, bidding rules stipulate that no more than three companies can participate in each alliance.
The work contract covers the inspection of rigid and flexible risers, umbilical and electric cables, production platforms, and potential pipeline repairs and underwater structures.
Currently, Petrobras has seven Brazilian-flagged SDSVs in operation.
The vessels Oceanicasub V, Cidade Ouro Preto, Geo Casco 631, Sistac Vitória, Pardela, Mandriao, and Siem Piata are on long-term contracts that expire from February 2019 to November 2021.
Another source suggested that the new bidding aims to replace the Sistac Esperança vessel, which was recently released by Petrobras after the end of its contract.
The SDSV tender is the first competition for offshore support vessels to be launched by Petrobras in Brazil in more than six months.
