Carlos Alberto Oliveira Takes Solange Guedes’ Place in the Operational Management of the Exploration and Production Department of the State Company
The CEO of Petrobras, Roberto Castello Branco, appointed the experienced production manager, Carlos Alberto Oliveira, as the director of exploration and production, replacing Solange Guedes. The appointment surprised the market, as Castello Branco had announced several changes to the board of directors shortly after taking his position last week.
Guedes, whose performance as a senior executive has been considered solid and unremarkable, will be transferred to the second floor and will hold a position on Petrobras’ supervisory board.

The Profile of Carlos Alberto Oliveira
Oliveira has a degree in mechanical engineering, but is also qualified for graduate studies in finance and investment analysis.
He served as the Petrobras general manager for E & P from 1999 to 2002, but was transferred to Argentina when the new government of the Workers’ Party opted for broad management changes in the company.
He was brought back to the heart of Petrobras administration in 2012, becoming responsible for production development, later taking on responsibility for strategy, and more recently for portfolio management.
He is likely to increase the focus on investment efficiency, as proposed by Castello Branco.
