Petrobras Held Its 1st Oil Transshipment Operation Using a Suezmax Ship at the Port of Açu Complex on May 24 and 25
The Açu Petróleo Oil Terminal (T-OIL), a partnership between Prumo Logística and Oiltanking, located at the Port of Açu Complex in northern Rio de Janeiro, performed Petrobras’ 1st transshipment operation using a Suezmax vessel on May 24 and 25, with the docking of the ships Henrique Dias (exporter) and Brasil 2014 (lighter). The operation refers to the contract signed with the state-owned company in March this year, with an initial duration of 2 years.
“Until today, Petrobras operated in Brazil only at its own terminals in Angra dos Reis and São Sebastião for oil exports. We are the first private terminal in the country to conduct operations for the oil company, and this is a great source of pride for Açu Petróleo. Our differentiators, such as the strategic location, close to the Santos and Campos basins, capacity to receive VLCC-class ships, and carry out transshipment in a sheltered area, were decisive in establishing this new and promising partnership,” said Victor Snabaitis Bomfim, president of Açu Petróleo.

With a depth of 25 meters and a licensed capacity to handle up to 1.2 million barrels of oil per day, T-OIL is the only Brazilian private terminal capable of receiving VLCC-class ships, with a storage capacity of up to 2 million barrels of crude oil.
Port of Açu, GNA, and BPort Discussed Billion-Dollar Investment for Regional Development on May 22 and 23
The Port of Açu Complex was one of the participants in the North and Northwest Fluminense Regional Development Seminar held on May 22 and 23 at the Conference Center of the State University of Northern Fluminense (UENF). Açu Operações, GNA – Gás Natural Açu, and BPort (a company of the Edison Chouest Group) presented their businesses and discussed the importance of infrastructure investment for regional development.
“Of the R$ 162 billion in investments projected for the next 5 years in the state of Rio, R$ 19 billion will be allocated to 12 large projects in North and Northwest Fluminense. Of these, 6 are in Açu,” said Caio Cunha, Institutional Relations Manager at Porto do Açu.
Among the main ongoing investments at the Complex are the construction of two natural gas thermal power plants and a regasification terminal, developed by GNA. “We are building the largest thermoelectric park in Latin America. A challenging project that involves investments of R$ 8 billion and is key to the development of Rio de Janeiro. We need to create the necessary mechanisms to attract capital and thus at least double our investments in the state,” stated Carlos Baldi, Operations Director.
“We have developed the largest offshore support base in the world at Açu, with an average movement of 4,000 trucks per month. We are already experiencing the recovery of the oil & gas market, and the expectation is for sector growth. Investing in improving access and connectivity, such as RJ 244 – which will connect Campos directly to Açu, is essential”. Said the General Operations Manager of BPort, Paulino Nóbrega.
“We have in Açu, which is still a recent complex, a potentially larger venture than the Port of Santos, which today accounts for 30% of the country’s exports and imports, generating billions of reais in tax revenue and hundreds of thousands of jobs. Just imagine what Açu can become in the coming years? To contribute to this growth, we are committed to solving the connectivity issues in the region, starting with the bypass of BR101, near Campos,” emphasized the State Secretary of Transportation, Delmo Pinho.
