New State Campaign Focuses on Increasing Onshore Production with More Than 100 Wells Planned in the Coming Years
Petrobras has resumed its onshore drilling activities in Bahia with the start of operations at the Taquipe field in São Sebastião do Passé. This action marks the return of the state-owned company to the state after six years, with ambitious plans for expansion in onshore oil and gas production.
Petrobras Launches New Exploration Phase in Bahia
Petrobras has begun the drilling of a new well at the Taquipe field in São Sebastião do Passé, about 80 km from Salvador. According to CNN Brazil, the operation, conducted by the EBS-08 rig from EBS Perfurações, represents the company’s return to drilling activities in Bahian soil after a six-year hiatus.
In addition to resuming operations, Petrobras has contracted three drilling rigs specifically to operate in the state, reinforcing its presence in onshore operations. The company’s goal is clear: to intensify production with a strategy that calls for the opening of more than 100 wells in the next five years.

Onshore Production Expansion Reinforces Petrobras’s Strategy
Currently, Petrobras maintains about 2,000 onshore wells and operates in 20 concessions in Bahia, producing around 17,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day. The region also hosts the Manati gas platform in Valença, consolidating the state’s importance in the company’s operational grid.
According to information from Petrobras itself, the expansion plan also includes the hiring of ten new Onshore Production Rigs (SPT), which will join the 13 already in operation, totaling 23 units dedicated to exploration in Bahian soil.
Petrobras Reinforces Commitment to Regional Development
The reactivation of drillings and investments in onshore infrastructure reflect Petrobras’s commitment to strengthening the local production chain and generating jobs in the region. As highlighted by the state-owned company, these measures are part of a broader strategy to reverse the decline in onshore production and stimulate regional energy self-sufficiency.
In addition to CNN Brazil, specialized outlets like PetróleoHoje have been following Petrobras’s movement, indicating that the resumption in Bahia could pave the way for new projects in other areas of the country, especially in the Northeast.
