PETRONAS Brazil Supports Education and Environmental Preservation with R$ 2.7M via FIA and Cultural Incentive Law, Benefiting Projects Like Força Meninas and Inhotim.
PETRONAS Brazil directs significant resources to initiatives that prioritize education and the preservation of natural resources. By channeling funds through tax incentives, the company supports numerous projects aimed at improving the quality of educational training and promoting environmental sustainability. This action reinforces PETRONAS’s commitment to contributing to a greener and educationally rich future. Institutions like Força Meninas and Inhotim were among those chosen to receive this crucial support for their operations and social impacts.
With this investment, PETRONAS not only strengthens formal and informal education but also boosts ongoing learning and cultural formation in communities. The company’s sponsorship provides the supported organizations the capability to expand their activities and reach an even wider audience. These efforts are fundamental to promoting a more conscious and educated society regarding artistic and environmental issues. The initiative reinforces PETRONAS’s mission to align its corporate values with Brazil’s educational and environmental development.
PETRONAS Investment in Education and Culture
PETRONAS Brazil, a branch of the Malaysian energy giant – PETRONAS, announced significant investments in cultural and children’s areas through the Cultural Incentive Law and the Child and Adolescent Fund (FIA). This commitment totals approximately R$ 2.7 million over the course of a year. One of the highlights is the itinerant expedition called ‘Curious Girls, Women of the Future’, organized by Força Meninas, which aims to encourage girls and young adolescents to venture into careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).

In the same direction, the MACETE project focuses on STEAM education, which integrates Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics, reinforcing the importance of education in various fields of knowledge. Additionally, the Chiquinha Gonzaga Orchestra aims to promote musical education among girls from communities, while the renowned Inhotim, the largest open-air museum and Botanical Garden of Brazil, receives support to conserve Brazilian biodiversity.
Integral Education and Sustainability
‘PETRONAS Brazil believes that education and inclusion are essential pillars not only to drive innovation and sustainable development but also to create a more inclusive and balanced society. Therefore, we take pride in supporting initiatives such as Força Meninas, MACETE, and the Chiquinha Gonzaga Orchestra, which promote learning and reveal the potential of young people for successful careers’, stated Suhana Sidik, Director of PETRONAS Brazil. For the executive, sustainable education is one of the fundamental pillars of its operations.
The support for Inhotim reaffirms this commitment to environmental preservation, representing a link between Malaysia and the largest open-air museum in Latin America. ‘We are eager to contribute a piece of Malaysia to this stunning setting’, she added.
Expeditions and Interactive Learning
The itinerant expedition ‘Curious Girls, Women of the Future’, for example, has already impacted around 15,000 students from public schools, focusing on promoting STEM learning in girls aged 10 to 15. The next stop is scheduled for November 12 in Contagem (MG), with the presence of collaborators from PETRONAS Lubricants International (PLI) and their families. Made possible by the Cultural Incentive Law, the project travels through various regions of Brazil, including Camaçari (BA), Currais Novos (RN), and Barra dos Garças (MT).
These expeditions offer interactive experiences, workshops, and lectures that encourage individual exploration and the development of future talents. Among their cultural activities, students also have the chance to watch the play ‘A Window to the World’, which narrates the stories of women who transformed their work environments through education.
MACETE and the Integration of Knowledge
The MACETE project, conducted by The Human Project (THP) in northeastern Brazil, seeks to enhance Social Technology (ST) by combining exact areas with art and entrepreneurship. Promoting STEAM education among elementary and high school students, MACETE elevates education to another level, supported by the Natural Sciences Sector of the UNESCO in Brazil. They offer practical workshops for young people who are often underrepresented, fostering a diverse and inclusive learning environment.
Chiquinha Gonzaga Orchestra and Inclusion in Music
The Chiquinha Gonzaga Symphony Orchestra, in turn, is a unique initiative that seeks to promote gender equity through education and the arts. With complete training, it offers instrument workshops and promotes concerts both in Brazil and internationally. Comprised of 50 young people aged between 13 and 19, the orchestra is an example of female empowerment in the musical scene and has a positive impact on its communities. In Malaysia, PETRONAS also sponsors the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra, envisioning what it plans to implement in Brazil: a strong artistic legacy.
Preservation and Art at Inhotim
Located in Brumadinho (MG), Inhotim is not just a museum; it is a conservation and art destination of priceless value. With the most notable collection of contemporary art in the Southern Hemisphere and a vast diversity of botanical species, Inhotim is essential to PETRONAS’s mission of emphasizing preservation. In 2023, the institute welcomed over 4 million visitors and offered education in environmentalism to thousands of children and teachers.
The Malaysian Garden will be a new attraction, incorporating botanical species from Malaysia and highlighting the mission of initiatives like the Imbak Canyon Studies Centre (ICSC) in Sabah. This center, funded by PETRONAS, is exemplary in research on tropical rainforest ecosystems.
Commitment to Local Communities
PETRONAS Brazil is committed to developing strong partnerships with local communities, placing the focus on social and environmental well-being in its operations. These efforts are based on three pillars: Empowering Knowledge, Planting Tomorrow, and Elevating Lives. In each segment, whether in Upstream, Downstream, or Maritime, PETRONAS is committed to aligning its activities with social needs, expanding its presence with new offshore operations and a line of licensed fuel stations set to debut in 2024. These practices highlight the company’s continuous commitment to education and sustainability on the international stage.
