Braskem Petrochemical Closed a 20-Year Deal with EDF Renewables for the Construction of a Wind Power Plant Located in Bahia.
Braskem announced this Thursday (14) the closing of a wind power purchase agreement with EDF Renewables of Brazil, which operates in the clean energy sector. In a statement sent to the Securities and Exchange Commission (CVM), Braskem stated that the contract contributes to the feasibility of installing a new wind power plant in Bahia, supporting the energy transition to clean energy sources in the Country and ensuring energy supply for the Petrochemical Company for about 20 years, starting in 2024.
Braskem Closed Other Wind Power Contracts in Brazil
The petrochemical company highlights that, in addition to this contract with EDF Renewables for the construction of the plant in Bahia, the company has already closed another 4 long-term contracts focused on wind and solar energy, reaching over 150 MW of average energy from these sources, which represent about 30% of the purchased electricity portfolio in the country.
According to Braskem, the contracts, including the one with EDF Renewables for its plant in Bahia, bring the company closer to reaching the goal of reducing 2.2 million tons of CO2, contributing to the objective of reducing greenhouse gas emissions of scope 1 and 2 by 15% by 2030 and achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.

Braskem Petrochemical Receives Sustainability Certification for Its Units in Bahia
The company received this month the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification for the use of circular and renewable raw materials in the production of resins and chemicals at its units in Camaçari, Bahia. From now on, these plants will be able to use alternative raw materials in their production processes, such as pyrolysis oil or circular oil, which is produced from pyrolysis, a chemical process.
The achievement of the certification is part of the petrochemical company’s efforts to eliminate plastic waste. Thus, the company will expand its portfolio of recycled products to include 300,000 tons of thermoplastic resins and chemical products with recycled content by 2025 and 1 million tons of these products by the beginning of the next decade.
The company also plans to eliminate 1.5 million tons of plastic waste that would be sent to landfills, incineration, or that would be disposed of in the environment. According to Braskem, the document also represents the continuation and expansion of the permission granted to the company to advance in the manufacture and commercialization of industrial products from circular raw materials.
