Peugeot Ends Production of Acclaimed 2008 Crossover Model in Brazil, a Vehicle That Has Marked the National Market Since Its Arrival in 2015.

The Stellantis factory in Porto Real (RJ) will stop producing the famous Peugeot 2008. This information comes from the Argentine website Ámbito Financiero, which obtained data confirming the production numbers of the 2008 in Palomar, Argentina. Thus, Peugeot ends production in Brazil, and the Fluminense plant will make way for another SUV, the Citroën Aircross.

Peugeot Will Focus on Production at the Argentine Factory

The seven-seat SUV from Citroën, which will replace the Peugeot 2008, will start production this month of November, and Peugeot will end production of its first-generation 2008 in Brazil starting on December 2.

It is also worth noting that the C3 hatchback is also produced at the factory located in RJ. To top it off, starting in the second half of 2024, the Citroën SUV-coupe, which is expected to be named C3 X but is currently referred to as project CC22, will also be produced in Rio de Janeiro. Thus, the plant will become exclusive to Citroën models.

Peugeot will focus on the Palomar plant in Argentina starting in 2024. In the second half of January, the first units of the SUV 2008 are expected to begin production. Until then, the unit will produce prototypes and pre-series samples of the utility vehicle. This is, in principle, for adjustments in the production lines.

According to the schedule posted on the Argentine website, in the first month of next year, the first 30 units are expected to come off the Stellantis assembly line in Argentina. In February, the number will rise to 249, 404 in March, 1,063 in April, and finally, it will exceed 2,000 units starting in May. Therefore, only in June will it stabilize above the monthly average of 3,000. The goal is to produce 25,592 units in 2024.

Peugeot Ends Production in Brazil but Plans to Continue Selling

Regarding keeping the Peugeot 2008 in the lineup in Brazil, the automaker says the answer is yes. Speculations suggest that Peugeot’s plan is to produce the entry-level and mid-range versions in Palomar, while the top-of-the-line configurations will come from Europe. It is worth highlighting that the Peugeot 2008 is a compact crossover from the automaker. Peugeot ends production in Brazil of the vehicle that arrived here in 2015.

In the national market, it is sold in three different versions: Allure, Griffe, and Griffe THP. The first two mentioned versions could be equipped with a 4-speed automatic transmission or a 4-speed manual transmission.
