Electric Pickup Chevrolet Silverado Surprises in Tests Conducted and Delivers 100 km More Range than Promised. Chevrolet Model Debuts in the Market with a Range of 740 km on a Single Charge!
Electric vehicle range estimates do not always match reality. The real world presents hills, high-speed highways, varying loads, and different climates—factors that can significantly impact a electric car’s range. However, while some models fall short of expectations under real-world conditions, others, such as the electric pickup Chevrolet Silverado, exceed the range figures advertised by manufacturers.
Chevrolet Silverado Electric Delivers More Range Than Expected
In the case of the electric pickup Chevrolet Silverado EV RST 2024, a test conducted by Youtuber JerryRigEverything suggests that the model meets its impressive official range estimate of 640 km and goes beyond it.
Zack Nelson, who runs the aforementioned channel, took a Silverado EV RST on a trip from Las Vegas to Phoenix and managed to travel 460.2 miles, equivalent to 740 km, before draining the battery of the electric pickup Chevrolet Silverado.

The Detroit brand has just announced new details about the upcoming version of the model, including an estimated range by General Motors of 440 miles (708 km). This is significantly more than the longest-range versions of rivals such as Ford F-150 Lightning (320 miles), Rivian R1T (410 miles), and Tesla Cybertruck (340 miles, or supposedly more than 470 with a range-extending battery that has yet to see the light of day).
In the video, Nelson states that the route was mostly composed of highways, with some dirt roads and urban sections as well. The trip also included a drop in elevation of 300 meters, which may have helped increase the range of the pickup slightly. However, Nelson points out that this represents only a drop of 0.6 m per mile (1.6 km) traveled
What Efficiency Was Achieved by the New Chevrolet Pickup?
The important thing is that, overall, the journey seems representative of how someone might actually use their electric Chevrolet Silverado pickup. And the model performed very well, achieving an efficiency of 3.2 km/kWh for those who are more curious.
Although a range of 708 km is definitely unnecessary for most situations, this kind of massive range can be crucial in convincing skeptical truck buyers to consider electrification in the future.
One reason is towing, as electric trucks, in general, lose a lot of range when towing loads. With more than 640 km available, the electric Chevrolet Silverado may be the first to meet the expectations of those who tow regularly, even with a trailer attached.
How Much Will the New Electric Chevrolet Silverado Pickup Cost?
All this range requires a ridiculously large battery, which drives the price of the electric Chevrolet Silverado pickup into luxury territory. The brand announced last Wednesday that the top-of-the-line pickup will cost US$ 96,495, including shipping. Deliveries are scheduled to start soon, later this year. It is worth mentioning that the brand already sells a more basic Silverado EV, but only for fleets.
And sometimes, even having an unbeatable range of 460 miles at your disposal is not enough to reach the charger. The Silverado EV that the Youtuber was driving ran out of charge in a parking lot about 100 meters from a charging station.
However, it is important to highlight that various initiatives are being developed to improve vehicle range and Nio’s semi-solid state batteries are already a reality. After successfully undergoing several fine-tuning tests, it has now entered mass production. These components can offer a range of up to 1,000 km per charge.
