Guaratuba Bridge Construction Is Progressing Rapidly, Integrating Cutting-Edge Technology and Generating Jobs, While Transforming Mobility and Tourism in the Coast of Paraná, Raising Expectations for a Lasting and Significant Impact in the Region.

The construction of the Bridge of Guaratuba, a historic project and one of the most anticipated in the coast of Paraná, has already surpassed 60% of its execution and is expected to be completed by April 2026, according to a recent report from the Department of Highways of Paraná (DER/PR).

With a total investment of R$ 386.9 million, this bridge promises to transform mobility in the region, connect strategic cities, and promote local tourism, in addition to generating more than 600 direct jobs, according to data updated in May 2025.

Located on the PR-412 highway, the structure integrates a road complex with 3.07 km in length, which includes modern and secure access from both the Guaratuba side and the Matinhos side.

The project includes four traffic lanes, each 3.60 meters wide, safety lanes, sidewalks with bike lanes on both sides, complete lighting, and intersections that facilitate access to the city center and important tourist spots, such as Caieiras beach.

Progress of Works in Guaratuba and Matinhos

In the Guaratuba section, the advancement of terrain containment work stands out, with sophisticated techniques such as anchored soil, root piles, and struts, ensuring the stability of the ramps and the safety of the project.

In Matinhos, teams are focused on drainage, earthmoving, and paving, with a forecast of moving 200,000 cubic meters of earth and executing 50,000 square meters of pavement, reinforcing the robustness of the infrastructure.

Fernando Furiatti, director-president of DER/PR, emphasizes that the accelerated pace of work will guarantee the delivery of the bridge within the expected timeframe, which will be a milestone for the Paraná coast.

He also informs that other important works, such as the duplication of PR-412 to Praia de Leste and future duplication to Santa Catarina, are in the preparation phase to begin soon.

Symbolic Significance and Technical Challenges

Engineer Larissa Vieira highlights the symbolic significance of the project for the region:

“Each completed stage represents not just development, but the realization of an old dream, a significant step for Paraná’s infrastructure.”

From a technical standpoint, the Guaratuba Bridge is recognized as one of the biggest engineering challenges in the state in recent years, both for its length and for the complexity of the project, which includes a cable-stayed section with a length of 1,200 meters and a precast superstructure.

So far, 50 foundation piles have been completed, divided between the cable-stayed and precast sections.

Progress includes 95 precast beams manufactured, with 80 already launched, and nine of the 20 slabs of the deck installed in the precast section.

In the cable-stayed section, the pillars of the main towers have been completed, as well as the infrastructure necessary to begin the assembly of the launching girder—a metallic structure that will allow the construction of the segments by the successive cantilever method, an advanced technique used to ensure precision and safety in large cable-stayed bridges.

Infrastructure for Safety and Mobility

The bridge will have four traffic lanes, two safety lanes for each direction, sidewalks with bike lanes, and guardrails, ensuring more comfort and safety for residents, tourists, and visitors to the region.

More than 600 direct jobs have already been generated in construction, involving a dedicated technical team committed to delivering a structure that, besides improving traffic, is expected to boost the local economy by facilitating access to important tourist destinations.

DER/PR provides real-time monitoring of the construction through cameras installed on-site, accessible on the official website (www.pontedeguaratuba.pr.gov.br), which demonstrates transparency and brings the public closer to the progress of the construction.

Regional Impacts and Future Investments

In addition to its logistical and economic importance, the Guaratuba Bridge represents a response to an old regional demand that has exceeded four decades, being awaited as a fundamental project for the development of the Paraná coast and for integration with the neighboring state of Santa Catarina, which will also benefit from the improvement of access roads.

The structure is part of a broader state government program to modernize the road infrastructure of the region, with investments that include the duplication of PR-412 and the planning of new works such as the Technical, Economic and Environmental Feasibility Study (EVTEA) of the Guaraqueçaba Road.

The project combines technical advancements, job creation, and social inclusion, with a direct positive impact on the quality of life of the local population and on the competitiveness of tourism, a sector that has been constantly growing in the Paraná coast.

With completion expected in 2026, what was once just a long-awaited dream is now taking shape before the eyes of residents and visitors, promising a future with faster traffic, greater safety, and a horizon of economic development sustained by modern infrastructure.

Do you believe that the Guaratuba Bridge will effectively transform the economy and tourism of the region? How can this project impact the lives of residents in the short and long term? Share your opinion!
