Bridge Construction Progresses With Completion Forecast and R$ 386.9 Million in Investments. Project Promises to Eliminate Dependence on Ferries and Boost Local Tourism and Economy.
A massive construction is underway on the coast, attracting the attention and expectations of thousands of people. The promise of transforming the way to cross the Guaratuba bay has generated hope, but it has also faced some obstacles.
Amid advances and challenges, the future of transportation in the region is heading towards a solution that may finally eliminate the dependence on ferries and ensure economic development for the cities of Guaratuba and Matinhos.
But Is Everything Going According to Plan?
With construction already reaching about 18% completion, the Guaratuba Bridge, on the coast of Paraná, is progressing on a project budgeted at R$ 386.9 million.

With an investment of R$ 612 million, a capacity to process 1.2 million liters of milk per day, Piracanjuba inaugurates a mega cheese factory that increases national production, reduces dependence on imports, and repositions Brazil on the global dairy map.

Goodbye bedside table: floating shelves become a trend in 2026 by freeing up space in the bedroom, improving circulation, bringing visual lightness, and integrating technology without taking up floor space.
This project promises to definitively address historical crossing issues in the region. Currently, travel between Guaratuba and Matinhos still relies on ferries, which causes congestion and disruptions, especially during the high tourist season.
But this situation may change soon. The forecast is that the bridge will be completed in the first half of 2026.

The Magnitude of Guaratuba Bridge
The bridge will have 1,244 meters in length, with four traffic lanes, plus two safety lanes. Bike paths and walkways for pedestrians are also planned, ensuring greater connectivity and safety for residents and visitors in the area.
According to the Department of Highways of Paraná (DER/PR), this robust structure will bring improvements not only in transportation but will also boost local and regional economic development, resolving historical problems and providing a safer route for emergencies, according to official sources from the state government.
Advances and Setbacks: Progress in August 2024
Following the formal start of construction in October 2023, the project has gone through various stages, such as the installation of industrial sites and environmental licensing.
However, in August 2024, an agreement temporarily suspended a lawsuit that aimed to halt the construction progress, filed by the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (ICMBio).
The Federal Regional Court of the 4th Region (TRF4) granted an additional 60 days for the controversy regarding the environmental impact to be resolved. So far, 46% of the total project value has already been committed, ensuring about R$ 178 million available to continue the project.
Local Impact: What Do Residents and Merchants Say?
According to surveys conducted by the Paranaense Institute of Economic and Social Development (Ipardes), the project has massive support from the community, with 97.9% approval from local residents and visitors to the coast.
The bridge will not only improve residents’ lives but will also boost tourism and facilitate responses in emergency situations, which is a great relief for the local community.

What to Expect in the Coming Months?
The next steps involve completing the foundations and piles, as well as infrastructure works on the access roads.
The forecast for completion in 2026 may seem far off, but the advances already observed, with 14 of the 64 concrete piles installed, indicate that the project is on the right track.
According to the DER, the bridge has not experienced significant suspensions, and all environmental issues are being handled in accordance with current legislation.
Now, the question remains: will the Guaratuba Bridge meet its schedule and deliver everything it promises by 2026? The population and tourists are anxiously waiting for the answer. The future of the Paraná coast is at stake.
