The Contract Between Petrobras And São Francisco Energia
This R$ 95 million amount for the 3 thermal power plants does not take into account the adjustments provided for in the contract until the end of the operation, with the contract needing to meet prerequisites such as approval from the Economic Defense Management Committee (Cade) and the regulatory agency National Agency for Petroleum, Natural Gas, and Biofuels (ANP).
According to Roberto Ardenganhy, Director of Institutional Relations and Sustainability at Petrobras, the sale of the 3 thermal power plants is important for the market to have a stronger and more competitive industry. Ardenganhy also states that Petrobras’s objective is to maximize the value of its portfolio and provide opportunities for other companies in the same sector to thrive. Furthermore, he believes that the arrival of new owners brings good prospects for the thermal power plants in Camaçari, in the state of Bahia.
For Juliano Matos, Director of Institutional Relations at Global Participações in Energy, Petrobras’s divestments could lead to greater competitiveness and the creation of new investments. He emphasizes that the purchasing company of the 3 thermal power plants directly viewed the maintenance of jobs, timely fulfillment of social and environmental commitments, and respect for contracts and energy availability, which are essential for national development.
Other Thermal Power Plants Are In Petrobras’s Asset Sale Plan
Petrobras also informed that the project for the divestment of UTE Canoas, located in Rio Grande do Sul, is still ongoing, and the next steps of the process will be disclosed to the market in due course. The plant has an installed capacity of 249 MW.
In 2013, the thermal power plant generated an average of 4,043 megawatts (MW) of electrical energy for the National Interconnected System (SIN), and in 2014, production was 4,761 megawatts (MW), through the 21 owned and leased thermal power plants that make up Petrobras’s generation park.
Petrobras began the non-binding phase for the commercialization of four thermal power plants in June 2020 – three in Camaçari, in the state of Bahia, and one in Canoas, in Rio Grande do Sul.
