Ensuring Even More Relevance Among the Ports of Brazil, the Port of Imbituba Ranked 1St in the Efficiency Ranking for Managing Container Cargo Operations and Also Gained Highlight Among International Complexes.

The Port of Imbituba, located in Santa Catarina, achieved 1st place in the CPPI (Container Port Performance Index) ranking, developed by the Global Transport Practice of the World Bank Group, in collaboration with the Maritime, Trade, and Supply Chain division of S&P Global Market Intelligence. This research ranked the efficiency of container operations management, and the complex topped the list among ports in Brazil, bringing great results for the port sector this Monday, (06/13).

The Global Transport Practice research, from the World Bank Group, in collaboration with the Maritime, Trade, and Supply Chain division of S&P Global Market Intelligence, secured the Port of Imbituba the first place in the efficiency ranking for managing container operations among the ports of Brazil. Furthermore, the complex received a good highlight among world ports, as 370 complexes were analyzed for the research.

This index analyzes container operations from two main perspectives: the management of operations and the statistics of these activities. Thus, regarding the administrative aspect of container business operations, the Port of Imbituba ranked first among Brazilian port complexes.

To this end, the number of movements of this kind annually and all the ship call data were considered, to verify the control of vessel entries and exits and the organization of operations.

In relation to the statistical analysis of container operations in Brazilian ports, the Port of Imbituba appeared in fourth place. These are significant results for the state of Santa Catarina, and Governor Carlos Moisés highlighted that “our state demonstrates to be very well represented. We have simultaneously, a qualified workforce, a competent innovation system, and a favorable environment for entrepreneurship. And our port management is no exception. Whether through direct or indirect management, we have increasingly technical and effective management in Santa Catarina.”

The Port of Imbituba not only achieved a great highlight but also reached a strong position in the world ranking, landing in 51st place among the 370 ports analyzed. Thus, the complex is close to other giants in the sector, such as Hong Kong (China) and Incheon (South Korea). Furthermore, in terms of port structures in Latin America, Imbituba ranks fourth and first among Mercosur ports, ensuring even more relevance on the international stage.

Thus, the port authority highlighted the importance of new investments in innovation and technology not only for container operations at the Port of Imbituba but for the entire cargo transport chain.

With the arrival of these results, the complex is now preparing to attract even more ventures and new businesses throughout 2022, due to its relevance among the ports of Brazil.

Currently, the Port of Imbituba has a container terminal, leased by Santos Brasil, and only during 2021, the cargo represented 12% of the total volume handled in tons, thus ensuring a positive outlook for the current results the complex is achieving.
