Ambipar and Porto do Açu Form Partnership for Future Construction of Operations Base Focused on Sustainability and the Consolidation of ESG Practices in the Complex
Amid a scenario of energy transition in the pursuit of decarbonization of activities and the adoption of ESG practices increasingly present in the global market, Porto do Açu continues to invest in sustainability within the complex and announces its newest venture. The project involves an operations base from Ambipar to establish the adoption of more sustainable practices throughout the entire cargo handling chain on site, aiming to ensure greater commitment to the global environmental agenda.
The announcement was made by the administration of Porto do Açu this Monday and, with this, the company takes another step in search of new businesses with sustainability in the complex. Ambipar is a company focused on environmental solutions and emergency response in the segment and will act as the administrator of ESG practices in the complex through the future operations base that will be installed after the start of the partnership between the port authority and the company.
Additionally, it was also disclosed that the initial contract term is 10 years, but that the partnership may be extended in the future. And, with the announcement of Ambipar’s installation at Porto do Açu, the company becomes the 19th to arrive at the complex with new businesses.
Besides Ambipar, the following companies are also present at the site: Porto do Açu Operações, Vast Infraestructura, BP Prumo, Brasil Port, InterMoor Global, Nov Global, TechnipFMC, Ocean Pact, Ferroport, Anglo American, Dome, GNA (Gás Natural Açu), Aeródromo Norte Fluminense, Estação Açu, Vix Logística, Duro Felguera, Açu Combustíveis (consortium operated by Vibra Energia), and Minas Gusa.
Port Complex Advances in the Pursuit of Sustainability with Ambipar Operations Base Following Contract with Shell for Green Hydrogen Production
In addition to the current contract with Ambipar for the installation of the operations base focused on ESG practices, Porto do Açu has been increasingly investing in sustainability in the complex. And, on May 19, the port authority announced a venture with Shell, a pilot plant for green hydrogen generation at the port complex facilities that will be built over the next few years.
The unit is expected to be completed by 2025 and will have an initial capacity of 10 megawatts (MW), potentially reaching 100 MW in the future and is part of the investment plan that will involve an outlay between US$ 60 million and US$ 120 million in R&D from Shell for the year 2022. This is because the Porto do Açu region has strong potential for resource production and could become the new focus for companies in the Rio de Janeiro area.
Porto do Açu is a complex developed by Prumo Logística, which offers infrastructure solutions for the Oil and Gas sector and is currently advancing in the pursuit of adopting ESG practices and new sustainability solutions to ensure greater environmental commitment in operations.
