The Lecture Entitled Port Maritime Community at the Açu Port Addressed Relevant Topics in the Field of Waterway Traffic
São João da Barra, November 13 – Açu Port held yesterday, the 12th, the 5th Meeting of Maritime Agents at the facility in São João da Barra. Present at the event were professionals from maritime agencies already operating in the Complex, operators working in the terminals installed in the facility or in port support companies (tugs, pilot boats, service boats). The aim of the meeting was to bring closer the various actors involved in port operations and update them on the current scenario of Açu.
In the lecture “Port Maritime Community at the Açu Port,” relevant topics were addressed, such as: VTS/VTMIS traffic control system used at Açu Port and Port Regulations – responsibilities and facilities for Açu users. The meeting also addressed daily matters of the maritime agents operating in the Complex.
Açu has had VTS for waterway traffic control since 2015 and, according to Mario Rodrigues, Navigation Manager at Açu Port, the company has shared its experience with other Brazilian ports interested in adopting the best monitoring practices in their terminals.

“As the first Brazilian port to have VTS, we remain committed to keeping our monitoring system always updated, with the best technologies and ensuring maximum maritime safety. Considering only the year 2019, we should reach the milestone of 6,000 maneuvers monitored by VTS without any accidents. The understanding of the maritime agent regarding the functionalities of VTS is essential for the dissemination of the safety concept in maritime operations.”
The Maritime Operations Specialist at Açu Port, Rogerio Oeda, spoke about the satisfaction of hosting the 5th edition of this meeting: “I think it is essential that the meetings continue to happen, always mixing information about the Complex and promoting networking.
The Complex has new numbers, new businesses, and many pieces of information to share. We make it a point to keep everyone updated, contributing to the strengthening of the relationship between maritime agents and the professionals of the facility,” he concluded.
