Port of Pecém Is Increasingly Well Positioned to Attract New Businesses and Consolidate Its Position as One of Brazil’s Leading Steel Export Terminals.

In a milestone for the Brazilian Port Industry, the Port of Pecém, located in the state of Ceará, successfully completed the largest steel plate operation in its history. Last Tuesday (08/01), over 72,000 tons of plates were shipped on a single vessel, consolidating the terminal as one of the most dynamic and effective in the country. The plates were produced at the ArcelorMittal Pecém steel mill, located in the Ceará Export Processing Zone (ZPE), and the shipment’s destination was the Port of Houston in the United States. The operation was executed on the vessel Yasa Ruby and involved the movement of 2,487 plates.

Investments in Infrastructure and Logistics Boost Port of Pecém’s Performance

The success of this operation is a testament to the competence and capacity of the Port of Pecém to handle large volumes and heavy loads.

Roberto de Castro, Operations Director of the Pecém Complex, emphasized the importance of this achievement, which reinforces the port’s position for future business opportunities in the state of Ceará.

The modern infrastructure and highly qualified operational team enabled the success of the operation, along with the use of state-of-the-art equipment.

A notable aspect of this operation was the use of a mixed method during the loading of the steel plates.

In addition to traditional wooden supports, electromagnets were employed to expedite the process.

José Alcântara, Port Operations Manager of the Pecém Complex, explained that the use of electromagnets significantly improved the operation’s productivity, especially when handling heavier plates, and also eliminated the need for wood in cargo stowage.

This record is highly significant, as the increase in the amount of cargo shipped per vessel also contributes to enhancing the port’s performance, allowing for the movement of larger capacity vessels.

Currently, steel plates are the main product exported by the Port of Pecém, representing an important link for the local and national economy.

Ceará Terminal Consolidates Its Position as One of Brazil’s Most Dynamic Ports

The steel plates produced in the Ceará ZPE are sent to over 20 countries around the world, and the Pecém port complex has handled over 1.46 million tons of these plates just in the first half of this year.

This export sector proves to be strategic for Brazil, and the Port of Pecém continues to demonstrate its relevance on the international stage, with high-standard operations that solidify it as one of the country’s main ports.

The successful loading operation of steel plates on the Yasa Ruby is an example of the synergy between the steel industry and the Brazilian port sector, strengthening foreign trade and contributing to the national economy.

The Port of Pecém reaffirms its position as a reference in port logistics, stimulating regional growth and opening pathways for new business opportunities in the future.
