The Terminal In Aracruz Registers Its Best Year In Cargo Handling And Financial Results
In a landmark year, which celebrated its 45th anniversary, Portocel, strategically located in Aracruz, Espírito Santo, reached new levels of excellence. The terminal, known for its efficiency in logistics and port transport, saw a significant increase in its cargo handling, reaching a total of 6.65 million tons in 2023. This number represents a 6% growth compared to the previous year, establishing a new record for the port. In addition to the cargo volume, Portocel also celebrated its best financial result, with an Ebitda that exceeded 30% of the 2022 figures, and exemplary safety performance, achieving the lowest severity rate in its history.
Strategic Expansion And Diversification Of Cargo
In December, the terminal broke monthly records for cellulose handling, shipping 642.8 thousand tons, an increase of nearly 33% compared to the same period last year. Cellulose, with a total of 6.24 million tons handled during the year, was the flagship, benefiting from the operation of LD Celulose and the consistent exports from companies like Suzano, Cenibra, and Veracel. Additionally, Portocel handled 412 thousand tons of general cargo, including granite and steel products, demonstrating its versatile and efficient logistics management capacity.
In the last quarter of 2023, the port expanded its storage area by 60%, adding 300 thousand m² of space. This expansion opens doors for handling an even greater variety of products, such as coffee, fertilizers, vehicles, and other project cargo, reinforcing Aracruz’s role as a vital logistics hub in the region and attracting new businesses and partnerships.
