The First Electric Mobility Corridor in the Northeast Has Been Launched by Neoenergia with a Fast Charging Station for Electric and Hybrid Vehicles, Aiming to Be the Largest in Brazil Upon Completion in Late First Semester of 2021.

The Neoenergia “green corridor,” for charging electric vehicles, as it is called, will connect the capitals of the northeastern region: Salvador, Natal, with stops in Aracaju, Maceió, Recife, and João Pessoa.

First Phase of the Green Corridor for Electric Vehicle Charging Has Already Begun in Bahia

The first phase has already started in Salvador, Bahia, with performance evaluation of electric cars on urban routes and plans to open the charging stations to the public. Experimentally, six electric and hybrid vehicles are traversing several sections of the capital of Bahia to evaluate their autonomy, performance, and define adjustments and improvements.

The other charging stations for electric vehicles in the Northeast will be delivered gradually by the end of the first semester of 2021. Once completed, the green corridor is expected to cover six of the nine states in the Northeast, passing through more than 65 municipalities.

The green corridor for electric vehicle charging is the result of a Research and Development (R&D) project regulated by Aneel, and is part of Neoenergia’s Electric Mobility Program.

Neoenergia Aims to Connect Charging Stations with Solar Power Generation in the Northeast

Neoenergia is studying the association of charging stations in the Northeast with photovoltaic solar power generation, according to José Brito, Neoenergia’s corporate R&D manager.

“We recognize the importance of ensuring sustainable development through measures aimed at combating climate change, and investing in electric mobility is part of this commitment. After all, using electric cars reduces gas emissions into the atmosphere, thus contributing to the decarbonization of the planet,” said Brito.
