Oceano Gas Station, Located in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Will Sell Gasoline Tax-Free Starting at R$ 4.85.
The Oceano Gas Station, located at Avenida do Contorno, No. 10,325, in Barro Preto, in the Centro-Sul region of Belo Horizonte, will hold a protest against the high tax burden embedded in services and products, reducing the price of gasoline. The event will take place on June 2 and will be carried out by merchants from all over Brazil and in the capital of Minas Gerais. The initiative is linked to the partnership between Minaspetro and the Chamber of Shopkeepers of Belo Horizonte (CDL/BH).
Details About How the Oceano Gas Station Protest Will Work and Limitations
The establishment will sell 5,000 liters of gasoline at a low price compared to the current average. The fuel will sell for R$ 4.85, limited to 50 motorcycles and 150 cars.
Motorcycles may fill up to 10.31 liters, totaling R$ 50, and vehicles may fill up to 30.93 liters, totaling R$ 150, with payment to be made in cash. The initiative is part of the Tax-Free Day (DLI) and the price of R$ 4.85 per liter of gasoline represents the common fuel price, without the addition of taxes such as ICMS, PIS/COFINS, and CIDE, which account for about 36% of the fees that make up the final price of the product.
According to data from the National Agency of Petroleum (ANP) and the Ministry of Economy, over the course of a year, consumers paid R$ 0.68 in PIS/COFINS and CIDE, about 12% of the final price. Meanwhile, ICMS amounts to R$ 2.07, 31%, thus the total tax burden is R$ 2.75, subtracted from the average gasoline price at the pump, which is R$ 7.60, resulting in R$ 4.85.
Minaspetro Comments on the Initiative in Belo Horizonte
The president of Minaspetro, Rafael Macedo, emphasizes the importance of engagement from gas station operators in such initiatives. Gasoline is likely the product through which consumers can most readily see the negative impact of the tax burden on the final price at the pump.
Not by chance, traditionally, long lines form on the day of the event, showing that it is a product consumers need for commuting and working. The initiative by the Oceano Gas Station in Belo Horizonte aims to highlight to consumers that various factors influence the rising price of fuels, such as freight, sugarcane mills, Petrobras, and taxes.
In April, the average price of gasoline increased by 0.98% in Belo Horizonte, compared to the prices from the first week of the month to the last, within a span of 21 days. In May, the average price decreased by 0.83%.
How to Fuel Up at Oceano Gas Station?
To refuel at Oceano Gas Station, it is necessary to respect the line in order of arrival and the sequence of tickets, which will be distributed starting at 8 AM.
Additionally, the company stresses that no jerrycans or any other containers will be allowed, even those authorized by ANP, given that refueling will be done directly into the vehicle or motorcycle tank.
The campaign, which is traditionally conducted by the National Confederation of Shopkeepers (CNDL), aims to educate the public regarding the high tax burden that raises the prices of products, especially fuels.
