Illegal Practice of Fuel Adulteration in Gasoline and Ethanol Leads National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels to Interdict Fuel Stations

For the second time in the same week, the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP) fined and interdicted yesterday (02/12), two fuel retail stations in Santos (SP). There was also a case last Monday, involving a fuel station in Niterói (RJ). Good news! The Agency relied on the support of Ipem-SP and the Military Police. The fuel stations, located in the Jabaquara and Vila Belmiro neighborhoods, had been interdicted by the Agency last Wednesday (02/10), but resumed operations without authorization.

The fines and interdictions carried out on Wednesday were due to the sale of fuels (gasoline and hydrated ethanol) outside the quality specifications required by the National Agency of Petroleum and Natural Gas.

The ANP reports that the fuel stations in SP hindered oversight, such as using a device at the access nozzle to the storage tank to prevent fiscal officers from collecting ethanol and gasoline.

According to the Agency, due to the disregard for the interdiction, the retailers, in addition to previous violations, are subject to fines ranging from R$ 20,000 to R$ 5 million and penalties of suspension of operation and revocation of authorization. The penalties will be applied only after an administrative process, during which agents will have the right to full defense and counter-argument, as defined by law.

Joint Oversight Action by the ANP Interdicts Fuel Station in Niterói – RJ

A fuel station was interdicted last Monday in Niterói, in the Metropolitan Region, during an operation titled Clean Pump, conducted by agents from the Fiscal Barrier, involving inspectors from the National Agency of Petroleum (ANP), National Institute of Metrology, Quality and Technology (Inmetro), and inspectors from the Delegacia de Defesa dos Serviços Delegados (DDSD).

The station operated in the Cubango neighborhood. According to the inspectors, it was detected that a gasoline pump from the Ecológico Noronha Torrezão Ltda station allegedly provided consumers with a quantity lower than that recorded on the pump. According to them, this irregularity is known as “low pump.”

On-site, the pumps were dismantled, with the collection of plates for analysis. The computer that had connection with the pumps was sealed. The station, according to the operation’s coordination, will remain interdicted until the collected materials are analyzed for forensic examination.

An employee limited himself to saying that the owners deny any irregularity and will appeal the decision to close the establishment.
