Northeast Shines in Clean Energy Production with Broad Distributed Generation Solar. Specialized Forum Will Discuss Trends and Opportunities in August at the Recife Events Center.
The Brazilian Northeast is standing out as a promising hub in the production of clean energy. This advancement is largely related to the development and implementation of innovative technologies that favor distributed generation. The growing adoption of sustainable solutions positions the region as a positive example in the national scenario.
The potential for producing clean energy in the Northeast will be the focus of a specialized forum that will take place in August. The event, which will be held at the Recife Events Center, will address topics such as renewable energy and solar energy, which are fundamental for the region’s energy future. Experts believe that Distributed Generation has the capacity to transform the energy matrix of the Northeast, promoting a more sustainable and economically viable scenario.
The region has played a critical role in the clean energy sector in Brazil being close to reaching the historic mark of 30 GW of installed capacity in the coming days of 2024. According to data from the National Electric System Operator (ONS), Brazil set two new records in solar energy generation in June. On June 28 and 29, the marks of 9,598 MW and 9,600 MW, respectively, were recorded in the Northeast subsystem. The largest of these marks corresponded to 84.5% of the energy demand in the region at that moment. So far, according to the ONS, eight records in solar generation have been registered just in 2024, six of them in the Northeast subsystem and two in the National Interconnected System (SIN), in January and March.

Growth and Importance of Distributed Generation
In terms of distributed generation, the Northeast currently accounts for 5.8 GW of installed capacity on its own, with Pernambuco being the third state that contributes the most according to the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel). Agency information also reveals that there are currently 21,224 solar plants installed in the country, with another 2,641,323 units of solar generation in the distributed generation modality. This results in an installed capacity of electric energy generation of 43.6 GW, which represents approximately 18.7% of the national total, positioning solar energy as the second largest source of energy in Brazil in terms of installed capacity.
Furthermore, Bahia recently announced the implementation of the first lithium factory in Latin America, a significant step that will greatly contribute to the energy storage market, one of the main opportunities for the country in the coming years. This topic will be, in fact, one of the highlights of the GD Northeast Forum.
25th Edition of the GD Northeast Forum and Its Impact
On August 7 and 8, 2024, the Recife Events Center, in Recife-PE, will host the 25th edition of the GD Northeast Forum. The event will feature a rich and extensive program addressing vital topics for the sector, such as energy storage, operation and maintenance of solar parks in distributed generation, financing lines, and the region’s potential for clean energy generation through micro and minigeneration.
‘The GD Northeast Forum is coming to the city of Recife for the first time, where we previously hosted the largest distributed generation event in the country in 2019. We are returning now with the intention of attracting new investments and positioning the state and the region as protagonists,’ highlights Tiago Fraga, CEO of Grupo FRG Mídias & Eventos, the organizing company of the Forum.
Importance of the Event for Sustainable Development
The event, according to experts, represents an innovative opportunity for professionals and enthusiasts in the sector to update themselves on the latest trends and innovations that are shaping the future of clean energy in Brazil. ‘Holding large events like this in the Northeast, especially in the state of Pernambuco, where I am currently the president of the Pernambuco association and have now also taken on the national presidency, gives us great satisfaction knowing that it is a serious, supported, and quality event focused on adding value,’ emphasizes Rudinei Miranda, president of the National Association of Representative Entities of Renewable Energies, one of the supporters of the event.
With the participation of experts, entrepreneurs, and government representatives, the event promises to be a milestone in the discussion on sustainable development and the growth opportunities for distributed energy generation in the region.
